    Anyone running a 5 blade on a 230?

    I currently have a 409 in a 230 with an ACME 1235.
Looking to get lower rpm for cruising. Not that I'm not satisfied with the 1235. Just looking for options.

No comment on the 5 blade but I am curious about the 1235...looking to upgrade from the 1941 to the 1235 (or 2079)...can you shed some light on the performance with the 1235?

I'm surfing at 2800 rpm around 10.5mph with 3500lbs ballast.
Top speed is around 45mph. Holeshot is pretty good for the amount of ballast but if there's solutions to lower rpm and have similar performance i'd take them.

5 blade will provide more hole shot however that extra blade equates to more drag at higher speeds.

If you want to lower the RPMs you need to increase the pitch on the the prop (the opposite of a gear ratio in a car) but this will reduce your hole shot performance. weather or not it is acceptable is up to you and will probably depend heavily on what elevation you boat at. The next normal step up (less aggressive) would be the ACME 1941.

1235 is about as good as it gets. Not going to run more than 35 or so but we can still get on plane slowly with 750s and a 500 piggyback in how. 343 power

I decided to pull the trigger on a 5 blade
              http://www.ebay.com/itm/OJ-TZ-X5-Inb...ZW2ZLN&vxp=mtr

Made an offer for 325$ and it was accepted. Not bad for a spare prop.

Update for the 5 blades: Not much better than the 1235
Holeshot is a little better, surf rpm is around 100-200 lower.
Rpm when cruising is not really different, the difference is really on how many people I have in the boat.
There is a more present "winding" noise with this prop and a little more "wash" to my surf wake. Not enough wash to get a nasty wake but more than the 1235.

It's a good spare prop for that price but I'll stick with my 1235.

Above is what I came up with as my rpms at various speeds with factory prop and rpm reduction if I went to a different prop. Example... Going to a 1947 would reduce my rpms 550 on average. This is due to changing pitch and also a little due to cup.
