Public service announcement to all Canadians regarding www.nautiquegear.com. Do not order from Nautique Gear unless you want to get bent over by UPS when your shipment crosses the border. It really isn't UPS's fault though as the customs form is filled out in error from nautique gear. They have a 20% sale on right now so I ordered a few items and the discount essentially made shipping free to me with the expectation I'd need to pay taxes upon arrival.
1. The customs form was filled out with a value that indicated the full retail price and not the amount actually paid after discount. This means the taxes and duties payable are 20% more than they should be.
2.The declaration said country of origin was Nicaragua. This incurs an 18% duty upon entry to Canada! This also incurs a brokerage surcharge from UPS.
What I was expecting to pay and should have been charged for was the GST and PST of 12% which would have worked out to $38 or so. The invoice from UPS was for $131.00 so I told them I was refusing shipment and they can send it back.
Threds Inc manages the site for Nautique and I assume Nautique get a cut of sales. I've left a voicemail for Leroy whom is apparently the Nautique brand manager
