Canadians beware of ordering from Nautiquegear.com

Public service announcement to all Canadians regarding www.nautiquegear.com. Do not order from Nautique Gear unless you want to get bent over by UPS when your shipment crosses the border. It really isn't UPS's fault though as the customs form is filled out in error from nautique gear. They have a 20% sale on right now so I ordered a few items and the discount essentially made shipping free to me with the expectation I'd need to pay taxes upon arrival.

    1. The customs form was filled out with a value that indicated the full retail price and not the amount actually paid after discount. This means the taxes and duties payable are 20% more than they should be.
2.The declaration said country of origin was Nicaragua. This incurs an 18% duty upon entry to Canada! This also incurs a brokerage surcharge from UPS.

What I was expecting to pay and should have been charged for was the GST and PST of 12% which would have worked out to $38 or so. The invoice from UPS was for $131.00 so I told them I was refusing shipment and they can send it back.

Threds Inc manages the site for Nautique and I assume Nautique get a cut of sales. I've left a voicemail for Leroy whom is apparently the Nautique brand manager

Leroy from Threds (nautiquegear.com) got back to me very quickly and has offered to pick up the difference in what should have been due to what was actually charged by UPS. I have paid the UPS charge now and the shipment will be delivered in the next couple days. I must say they have great customer service and definitely went above and beyond what is typical these days. It wasn't what I was expecting that's for sure.

They are also looking into their shipping policy's and how declared value and Country of Origin are submitted to shipments to Canada and most likely to other countries. I've asked him to update me with what they are planning to do in the future and I will update this thread.

Thanks for the warning! With the CDN $ being so low, and with UPS surcharges on top of it all, ordering from the States isn't too fun. Let us know what you hear back from Nautiquegear.

I wasn't to impressed with my orders from them. The quality of the merchandise is all over the place. Not one T-shirt was the same material , the same brand or fit the same. Sizing was all over the place. Same with couple of the hoodies I bought.

Tbeir their customer service processing returns and getting stuff out was excellent. I just was expecting a little higher quality stuff.

          Swatguy,

Each garment has a component description in the listing so there should be no surprises.. The material is the most important factor when I am buying a shirt and I like having the choices they offer. I wont buy 100% cotton even again but if I did, I know I need to go up a size. The blends are amazingly soft and hardly shrink. Hope this helps.

You should inform Leroy to ship USPS. UPS and Fedex are the 2 worst shipping companies to use on international orders. USPS is very reasonable.

I'd like to mention here that UPS SUCKS. Delivery men/women are great. Corporate are absolute crooks.

Shipped UPS saver so should have been no brokerage but since they needed to do a bit of work for the duties they charged some brokerage. Order should arrive on Monday so we'll see first hand about the quality.

Received my package yesterday and everything was good quality in my opinion. Only had one hoodie not fit but I wasn't sure if it was going to when I ordered it but it will fit the wife. Nautique gear also refunded me as they promised so I have nothing but good things to say about there customer service and product!

They are going to let me know what they come up with for a solution to shipping to Canada and when they do I'll update the thread. In the meantime if you're looking at shipping to Canada send them an email prior to ordering so you can discuss your options.

As mentioned in the posts above USPS all the way. I always request USPS shipping, if they won't then I don't order, if we go stateside for holidays I'll usually order up a bunch of stuff that I wanted and get it shipped to where we are staying.
