Wake_sk8, rumor in the industry is that the day after McNew leaves, all the CC oldsters are going to open up a can of whoop *ss on 'em! Or, they'll all work to make the best DARN boats just like they've done - "sticktoitiveness" (aka endurance).

        Gary's the man !!

I've met Gary Meloon a few times and he's a real genuine man of integrity and character -- he's the right man for the job. . .

Forget the searach firm CC needs someone from the inside, someone who understands CC quality and the CC way and what makes CC different from all the other boat companys. And CC needs it NOW.

With all the good talent leaving, and all the quality issues and bad decisions that CC has been making recently, Gary is the ONLY choice for CC to make. And if Gary has some questions along the way, he only has to ask his Dad who I'm sure would help out in a heart beat.

After many, many years I'm ready to leave the CC family because I won't be able to buy a CC with a right hand propeller anymore -- it's CRAZY the decisions the decisions they're making down there !!!

          the company

THis is a truly Christian built company and the Meloons are such a great family. What is happening has little to do with the family I think. I have seen the "family" members go down recently for no real reason. Something big is going down and I cant say what. I just know that it is all wrong. Its very scary. I will say this. If there was anyone that should be in charge of the company it should be Gary Meloon. He is one of the nicest and most professional men in this organization.

"Scary"? C'mon, Former, or Fomenter or whoever you are. Your posts are absolutely breathless and uninformative.

Does Gary Meloon really want the job so bad that he'd hired a tow boat company fluffer/lobbyist?

              RE: the company

I think what's happened is that the Meloon family changed their business strategy in that they removed the family owned portion from the business and hired external heavy hitters to run it. Clearly those external drivers are breaking down and going through gut wrenching churn right now. Overall, this is looking to me to be a down spiral decision and I hope they consider bringing back family strengths to right the ship before it gets too far off course....regardless of who takes the helm.

Your short term employment at CC is showing how much you really now about Gary Melloon and the Meloon family.

Who says nice friendly guys are capable of running a multi million dollar boat company?

My 2 cents on this is: Watch out for Christians that always profess and promote themselves to be Christians as they some times can be the most dishonest people and hide behind the Christianity
Lack of proper planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

Good point. Running a large corporation is difficult. You have to make difficult and unpopular decisions. Nice guys often try to make everyone happy which is not the way to run a large corporation. I've met Gary Meloon only briefly. Seemed like a genuine guy. I'm not commenting on whether or not he is fit to run CC. I can't make that kind of judgment with just a handshake. However, obviously the Meloons as a family have had some measure of success in running CC.

Yes they DID have a good measure of success in the past.....but from my observations the company has been run and grown much better since Walt Meloon Jr was retired by the family about 5 years ago and outside leadership (Pres/CEO) was brought in.

My idea is that the stockholders and the board dont have the confidence in Gary Meloon's ability and experience to do the job properly even though he might be a nice guy.

Thus the reason in the press release that CCI was hiring a headhunter firm to find a replacement for Terry McNew.
Lack of proper planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

Don't agree at all . . . Walt Meloon was/is a tough leader -- tough but fair, and some people didn't like that he was tough. He wanted it right, not half right. As soon as Walt was pushed aside this company began a downward spiral.

The worst decision was to bring in a "corporate man" from SeaRay who apparently didn't understand what Nautiques are all about and what makes them special. You want to build boats in quantity go to a Bayliner plant -- you want to build the best, you've got to do it a little different . . . and you've got to stick with the advantages that got you to be #1 instead of changing things just to change things.

So now the company is moving into a brand new facility, with no leader and the way I hear it there is a lot of hard feelings among most of the old line CC employees who built this company with their sweat and dedication . . . and who have had to sit by and watch each bad decision being made. Some real good people are gone and others really got kicked around but the corporate guys. Not a pretty picture -- except for BU and MC and Supra.

They oughtta put Walt and Gary in charge together -- they'll straighten the place out real quick. And they're the only ones who have the respect of the staff to be able to make it happen.

Wow... so I can't believe I wasted half the night not sleeping and reading this extremely long thread instead.... OK thats not true. Yes I can. Its a post about two topics that I am extremely passionate about. I have never seen this forum until tonight, but I value this topic enough that I joined so I could comment.

I was slightly shocked when I came to the rather abrupt end of the string. What happened next? How is the company doing now?

Quite a bit of time has passed since this thread was active (Jun 01, 2006!). I suppose I need to look around the site instead of just googling into this one particular thread, but I thought I'd ask the question and see if anyone wanted to respond. Anyone want to take the bait?

So, he was hired back in August. Any insight on how things are going under the new leadership?
