2003 SANTE Faria Box/ gauge replacement

So I am about to go buy this boat and the gauges apparently only work intermittently. I am first going to try to remove the gateway box and see fi there is any water damage. If it is too far gone, how bad is replacing the whole thing with the newer 2006 gateway and gauges since the 2003 is not longer in existence. I am getting a really good deal on the boat, or at least I think so and want to make sure that this is not going to be something that is a re-occurring incident. Any input would be much appreciated or a link to another thread that documents the process. I have tried searching.

just making sure you saw this thread where we are discussing this very problem ... one of the guys went ahead and replaced i think
