That number sounds like an "I don't really wanna deal with this" kinda number. I have been known to give those out from time to time to customers when i know the project is not going to be worth my time, or something I'm not comfortable with.

I was thinking of doing the same thing to my boat come spring. so if i do i will let you know what I had to do to make it happen.

Dang son, that's some stupid money for that. Find Boat Works Today on YouTube and start watching some videos then do it yourself. Some pictures would help to see what you have but you should only be looking at maybe some chop strand, resin, faring compound and white gelcoat for materials along with sandpaper. Spraying the gelcoat would make the process a lot easier to get smooth but you could even roll it.

Time to find a new shop. Any professional shop could knock this out in a few hours over a couple days. These guys just don't want to mess with it.

Thanks for the replies sorry about no pics, I wasn't even thinking about that at the time , more upset that in this day and age anything is possible, and all of a sudden, to find that all this modifying is required to make it happen ! I'm trying to find another fiberglass shop to try so I will update soon .

Ok Everyone, here is the latest..... I have visited two custom repair fiberglass shops and both of them have said there is a lot of work to do on the this 2005 engine cover. The reasons are as follows.

              1. It is not a matter of slapping some fiberglass with a gel coat.
              2. Underneath is a huge hump from the cut out underneath wear it clears the top of the engine
              3. The whole perimeter of this engine hatch cover is surrounded by a one inch rounded foam that the vinyl covers, you will need to remove it which increases your work load 1000 percent
              4. The cost from two places is 4000 - 5000 thousand to make it Factory in appearance

I suspect that is why there are no posts on this year and model of boat of someone actually completing this. However I have a friend who is a metal fabricator and I am going to have him make an engine hatch out of aluminum.( $2500 + seadek $800) . I will post pics as this progresses, I have ordered the tracing paper and once the shell is built I will order the seadek. Time line for this is January. Stay tuned.

$800 to Seadek is an absolutely outrageous price. Get with Derek at DekDesigns and he can do it for $400 or less I bet and put any logo you want on it.

Thanks for help brit , unfortunately for me those prices are in Canadian dollars. lol. The seadek will have three colors two Nautique logos so roughly $575.00 US plus exchange plus delivery, duties etc however I will get a first responder discount !!!

What about if you made the starboard or port hatch the walkthrough? Just a suggestion. I'd do the port because you already have the removable seat cushion with a step under it on that side. I've seen a left or right walkthrough on a Nautique before I believe.

Thanks GD, using the starboard or port sides is good, however I’ve seen a pic with a similar year and it looked good. Another reason is everyone uses the middle section to get to the swim grid.

i would spend $4000 on about 100 other things for the boat before spending it on a walkthrough.

This was posted previously but its not an 2005 210 and not sure of the model. This engine cover looks much easier to modify than mine. This picture looks very similar to my boat however my red is much brighter. The plan is to go all red , with black logos and grey pinstriping I hope it looks like factory but maybe I should go mostly grey like the pic?

I would hope to get some more ideas on this as I would love to convert my engine cover to a walk through. My boat is a 2005 210 Team edition. Here's where I am at so far,

                                1. engine cover removed and a small corner exposed, once vinyl is peeled back what you see is a rounded foam edge that goes all the way around cover and if you remove the foam edge you have raw unfinished fiberglass, this is the same unfinished surface for the top.

                                2. to have the top and sides of the engine cover modified to match the smooth white gelcoat that the underneath is done in would cost 4-5 thousand.

                                3. using acrylic will not hide the edging underneath once the engine cover is lifted as the vinyl covers this and I'm told acrylic will fade after exposure to the sun and yes the Seadek would cover most of it but the edging would still fade

                                4. a shop can reproduce my engine cover out of aluminum for 2500 Canadian, powder coated white and with the Seadek 900 Canadian, this seams to be my only option so far so total cost $3400
the Seadek would be a three color mat and would have the Nautique logo as Seadek now has permission to reproduce a few logos.

                                your thoughts folks??
I had one built for my 205v. I bought 2” square aluminum tubing and a1/4” plate of aluminum and found a metal guy who owned a CNC plasma cutter. I gave him the material and plans and he built it 400 bucks. I had it powder coated which is a must so the seadeck stick properly and built my own heat shield out of 24 guage aluminum and 1/2 foam. Total cost for the job was 1600 bucks. Best upgrade ever and the 2” tubing keeps the hatch from touching the engine now.
