I know someone on here (in AUS I think) "fixed" the problem of no cupholders in the gunwales of 2008-2010 SAN 210 boats by forming some "pockets" out of fiberglass and cutting the upholstery to add cupholders as there is a lack of them in the rear of these boats. I was on a friends 2012 210 this weekend and noticed they have them on both sides and thought maybe you could just order the plastic inserts and take to an upholstery shop to have them cut in. Contacted NautiqueParts and they provided part numbers and cost for them (said would be special order from Nautique direct - they are the 2013 210 one's) - so no problem there. Question is - has anyone done this? If so, any thoughts, insights, etc? Also, does anyone see any reason this would not work or know of any issues doing this? Any other ideas?? Thanks in advance for your input!

It can be done just the way you described. I have seen it done on a 2011 210. It looked really good and was a factory finish. How much were the combing pads or pockets as you called them if you don't mind me asking? I've thought about this as well.2009 Super Air Nautique 210 TE

Again, both special order from NautiqueParts.com. If I do it I'll post here - please do the same if you do!bdisney3

It certainly will work, had the boxes been cheaper I would have used them instead of making my own, I investigated fitment using a mates 2012. Unfortunately for me the exchange rate was bad and buying the genuine boxes was going to turn it into a $1200 project.
If your happy with how the shape of the box fits with the older combing skins then go for it. It's probably the best thing I've done to my boat!
Oh btw: if you don't have a 2012-2013 to take measurements from you may run into trouble with the amount of clearance with the front port box as the void slims out as the hull curves toward the front of the boat and toward the bottom, so make sure it not too low and not too far forward.
There's plenty of clearance for the aft boxes.
