    new boat

ok i grew up skiing and boring behind an 88 2001. last year i got a 1992 nautique with a tower speakers etc. all in all i like the boat but i want more storage with an open bow. i recently talked the wife into it and started looking at a few different boats and wanted to know how they compare to what I've been using.

both my dad and i like to slalom neither of us are great but we both enjoy doing it
me and all my friends wake board and knee board.
the 1992 has a good enough wake for what we are doing as far as we are concerned

2 boats i have ran across that i like are
a DD 1999 super air nautique with a python (also wondering how it compares to the 351M i have been using for 10 years)
    and a
    2008 nautique 206

    both have PP, open bow,

i was just wondering how these would compare to what i currently have
    any info would be great

we are looking for a all in budget at around 25 with tower speakers and that marriage saving device (perfect pass). if any one has any other models they would recommend please let me know. thanks

Those two boats are quite different. The 99 SAN is a pure wakeboard boat. Even with the tanks empty, the wake will be exciting crossing on a slalom. The 206 is a ski boat. Both will have good space. If you're happy with the size of wake for boarding on the 92, the 206 will be plenty I would think and I may go with the 206 just for the newness factor. But that python... oooooh that python.... Good luck!

I have a 2007 206. I slalom ski, the kids primarily wakeboard. One of my sons is working to land his first invert behind the boat. I have heard of others with a 206 skiing the course in the morning and going out in the afternoon to wakeboard and throwing inverts. When wakeboarding we use two 400 lb fat sacks; one in the trunk and one between the engine and rear seat.

Just to clarify a Super Air is a V-Drive not a DD. The Air Nautique is a DD and could be fitted with the Python engine.

That "DD 1999 super air nautique with a python" is probably the one offered by POP yachts? They've been advertising that Air as a Super Air for a long time. If that's the case it'll ski and board pretty well. Plus Python: BINGO!

Personally while the python is awesome to tell people you have and will make the boat seem like a rocket ship it's loud as all **** in the boat on a v drive , put that in the d-drive configuration and man you'd probably have some not so comfy passengers to talk to.

Tge 206 will ski bit better , the d drive air will wakeboard touch better. I'd go 206 from these two choices,
if you could up your budget a tad you may be able to find SV211 which would be a perfect fit

just to give you an idea.

and one thing i am worried about is skinning behind a v drive from what I've heard its not the nicest thing ever. i do get threw 22 off every no and then how will it ride compared to a dd. I've never rode behind a v drive

oops! I missed the "DD" in the OP and just saw the SAN. Good catch.

A v-drive will not ski as well as a DD. That POP boat is a Sport Nautique with the Python engine and "AIR" graphics. No built-in ballast as evidenced by the bags they show in the pictures. Should ski well, but as others have pointed out it might be loud in the cockpit as the Python has dual exhaust and IIRC no mufflers (at least in the v-drive config). This boat may have mufflers as there is more room between the engine and the transom than in a v-drive configuration.

The Python engine is known to use oil - which is normal. Other Python owners note that they keep a close eye on their oil level. The engine also shakes at idle and owners have reported that the shaking rattles the swim platform and tower.

This boat will also need a tower added if you are going to do any wakeboarding. Looks like one of the exhaust hoses will need replacing soon as it looks like it is coming apart. Overall from the pictures the boat looks in good shape for a 17 year old boat.

If it was me I might keep looking. While the Python-engine boat has a certain rareness and cool factor to it, on a daily basis I think it could grow tiresome. As a second boat used for blasting around the lake - well that's a different story.
