    Hull number help

Hi - I need to decipher my hull number to register my boat in Alabama. They have just started requiring this information. We have a 1976 Ski Nautique. I found the hull number but it is white raised letters on a white hull. So I did several rubbings to see the hin. This is what I have come up with and the tag dept states it is only 12 in length but this is what I show: CTC05374 SN K ML 76

Can someone help me determine the correct hin? I checked the Correct Craft website but this number doesn't match up to their description shown below.

Your HIN is located on the top right side of the transom, above the water line. The U.S. Coast Guard requires that your HIN be permanently affixed and remain on the top right side of the transom. The first three digits represent Correct Craft, Inc. (CTC) The next five digits are the boat’s serial number. The next digit is a letter from “A” where “A” = January through “L” where “L” = December, designating the month the boat was made.

The last three digits represent the last digit of the year the boat was built and the final two digits of the boat model year. A boat built in July 2006 is actually a 2007 model boat. Example: A boat with “607” as the last digits indicates the boat was built in 2006, but it is a 2007 model boat.

    Thanks so much!

CTC, 05374 & SN are likely correct, after that does not add up?
K could be a June build and maybe ML is actually a 6??

Update: I contacted Nautique for assistance and they weren't certain either. Here is the reply:

It's sort of weird that the SN is in the middle of the HIN. It is beginning to sound as though the boat was incorrectly marked at the time of manufacture. We used SNK (with no space in it) as an identifier for a Ski Nautique, but it appeared in its own space following the 12-character HIN. I can refer you to a document published by NASBLA (National Association of State Boating Law Administrators) that calls out the format for the HINs on boats manufactured after 1972 and prior to 1984, but unfortunately it doesn't cover cases like this one. You can go to http://www.nasbla.com and search for HIN format.

I've added a photo of the HIN.

Thanks for in the input. We plan to post it for sale soon.
