What does the lock near the throttle do on my boat??

I have a new to me '98 sport nautique, and i'm trying to figure out what the lock near the throttle does. It is the same style that locks the ski locker and glovebox, and looking underneath i can see a cable that heads to the rear of the boat. Couldn't see the other end of the cable. Is it a gas cap lock?, or rear locker cap?

    Thanks!

Typically, this works the lock on your back storage hatch. Look in the center of the back hatch and there should be a little hole that a pin comes through.

Thanks a lot, that makes sense. I'll have to look for the pin because it def. doesn't keep it locked right now.

Yes they had a problem with the vinyl ripping, at some point they added a 90 degree angle metal piece to reinforce, but this may or may not have been placed on ur boat.

Like others have said it's a trunk lock. We've never used ours since we don't leave the boat unattended.
