The only people I know that have made money on buying and selling new boats are in Canada where the dollar had been taking a beating over the last couple years and the new prices have been increasing drastically but even that game ends unless you take yourself completely out of the market. I can't imagine any situation in the US where someone would pay the same for 1 year old boat with 100 hours as a brand new one. Getting the new boat each year ensures you have the latest tech and warranty but definitely not a free ride.

I turned a few 196's for as much or more than I paid for them. You basically need a great relationship with your dealer, who will make a you skinny sale...25%+ off MSRP. With an annual cost increase of 3%-ish, and most dealers offering 10-15% of MSRP, your used price doesn't look too bad. You also need market luck. 196's were hot once the 200 came out, so turning my boats was easy, but only due to the timing. It may still be possible to make out on the G's, as they're still relatively new and hot?

Exactly what SWC5150 said. You have to be getting a better deal than everyone else to make it cost effective. And there needs to be certain market factors in your favor.

Both of those worked a little against me on my flip this last year. Dealer gave me a great price on my 15 G23, but turns out he gave everyone in my area that same great deal. New dealer wanting to really get his name out there. But still a better deal than most parts of the country. We decided to flip, and ordered a new boat. Then the 16 G comes with its #gamechanger and everyone else wants to do the same. So the market gets a little flooded with late model G23's. So I took it a little bit in the shorts on this one. Had the 16 G not been such a hit, I think I would have been in a better situation on my 15.

Interestingly, my dealer just brought in 3 more 2016 G23's. He said the factory incentivized him pretty good. It sounds like the assembly line got slow in July in anticipation of the 2017 coming out. So now he is probably selling a new 2016 for even less than what I paid in the fall. Competing against the dealer is never a good thing. Glad I am not flipping right now.
