    GS20 and Barefoot Boom

I'm looking at the new GS20 and am hoping it can fill some gaps between what I want to do and can do in my 2016 210 with the 343 Excalibur engine. First I love my 210. It's a great boat. Wake surfing is great with the NSS. Takes longer than I want to get up on plane fully loaded for wakeboarding but once up its fantastic. I live on a small lake and eat up a chunk of my straight line starting. We also like to barefoot and have a rock solid tower mount boom from International Barefoot that I love however the top end on my 210 is lacking. It hits 38 with my usual crew in it and drops to 35 or 36 on a turn or when the footer starts creating more drag. The boom is important to us because we teach a lot of kids to ski and foot.

The GS20 comes with the 409 engine as standard and should give me more top end and torque. However I don't believe we can use my existing boom since the tower has been redesigned, plus the tower is located farther aft on the boat and the spray on the sides appears closer to the bow on plane than my 210. I'm hoping the NCRS can be adjusted to move the spray farther back but won't be able to tell until I ride in one. Attaching to the rear pylon with an s curve bar may be an option but with the tower located farther aft it may get in the way.

Do any of you have suggestions on where and how to mount a boom on the GS20?

I have a 2011 210 with BFI tower boom. Although a tad slow for footing I love the boat - but hate the boom. We also teach a lot of kids and using a boom makes it soooo easy. But taking the tower boom on and off is so much more difficult than a pylon boom. In addition I have not been able to position the boom to be out of the spray. Do you use an extension? Have you found a good position for the boom? Would you be willing to share any pictures?

I'm considering two ideas... 1. live with the install/removal pain, position the boom high and pointed forward, and use a short rope. 2. fabricate a main boom attachment that would slide under the tower base (no holes in gelcoat) and move the boom attachment point forward, ahead of the spray. I'd be interested to hear arguments for or against these ideas.

Sorry I'm hijacking your post and not addressing your issue.

Good news (potentially) for you. Our boom comes off and on VERY easy and we aren't bothered by spray. I simply don't know the difference 5 years makes on the 210 with regard to tower location, spray patterns etc., but I'm happy to share some photos to see if it helps you. and here's a link to a video where you can see where the spray hits. This is a stock boom... no extension.

Thanks tphillips98! I'll position my boom similar to yours and see if we get better results. Do you ski off a dock? This would make putting the boom on/off easy. Doing it from the boat is difficult. Great pics and vid!!!

I do ski off a dock. However it's 50/50 on whether we attach the boom while its docked or beached. But never on open water. I timed my son and I last night. We attached the boom in about 45 seconds and then spent another 20 seconds adjusting the arms to tighten the cables. So if its taking you longer than 2 - 3 minutes... we are doing something different.

Does anyone know the the top end speed on the GS20 or 22 is? I have a SAN 210 but with the stock prop it doesn't have the speed I like when deep lining (40mph).
