Mastercraft Tristar owner looking to get a better all-around boat. I've think I've landed on a '05-'06 SV-211 due to the layout and ease of transition from watersport-to-watersport. I have two young kids (5 & 7) that ski, but are currently in the tube-phase. We recently purchased them a youth wakeboard as I'm sure it won't be too long before they want to try it. My wife and I slalom and will admit I'm spoiled skiing behind an DD for so long, but from what I understand the 211 wake it pretty reasonable for a v-drive. But being able to surf between slalom runs is pretty appealing as well. Looking to hear from those who have the 211 what you've experienced as far as the pros and cons.

Wow! This was exactly my situation this past winter. Wife and I had a Tristar 190 open bow and moved up to 2004 211. First time for us with a boat with so many amenities so we are just loving it!! We have 6yr old that has learned to wakeboard this summer and doing great so far. We also have a 4yr old who's still trying. He can get up but can't ride more than 40yds yet. I slalom a little or try anyway and not bad for me. My brother in law is better then me and has a Tige 20v and has commented how good the ski wake is on the 211. For my wakeboarding skills, the factory ballast and hydro gate in wakeboard mode is a pretty nice wake for me! You will love the amount of storage space and room in the 211 after coming from a Tristar. We haven't really tried much surfing yet so I can't say there. Although I've made the infamous "suck gate" I haven't been able to test and try yet. All in all we love the boat!

Thanks for the response Homer. That really helps to validate that I'm moving in the right direction. I have a wakeboard, but coming from a DD I'm sure the 211 wake will be more than sufficient for me. I figured I'll eventually need to make a suck gate for surfing, so I may hit you up for pointers on that as well. But that'll be a while since I actually have to find a boat first.

I own a 2005 SV-211 and overall I have been happy with it. One of the known problems with that boat is that it was the first generation of boats that they put ballast tanks into and the original ballast valves were not very good. You will know if yours haven't been replaced as your ballast tanks will take on water while running if you aren't paying attention. Search for other threads on Planet Nautique for more information. That said, I always get complements from others when I take it out. I have had people surf behind it and others barefoot so it is definitely a flexible boat.

I have had an 07 211 since new. I has taken me and my kids throught the tubing phase, kneeboarding, wakeboarding and an occasional slalom run with great success. I only wish that it was a bit bigger and had a better rear seat, but then the good traits would all change. Bottom line, the 211 is a great boat for a young family who likes to do it all.

bought my 2005 sv211 TE new. Still go to boat shows and still walk out knowing I have one of the best all around boats for the money I have in it. The slalom wake is bigger, but the boat is heavier, but if you pull thru the wakes, it was never an issue for me. I did replace factory rear ballast, and mainly surf with 14 year old and friends. You won't be disappointed

I have both a Ski Nautique and a 211. The wake on the Ski Nautique is obviously much better, but the 211 is skiable.
The versatility of the 211 is great though. Ski, wake, surf, all in the same boat.2001 Ski Nautique / 2007 SV211 TE (gone but not forgotten)

I've owned my 211 for 11 years and while I like the ski wake behind any direct drive better, if you ski in the low 30s the wake isn't bad, 28 and below it becomes a bit scary to cross. However, with that said, it has been the perfect boat for us - ski, wakeboard and surf, plus it fits in my garage easily.
I pulled the original hard tanks from the rear locker and replaced them with 750# sacks plumbed using the original pumps and plumbing. I just built a suck gate for surfing and it completely changed the wave and ease of changing sides - I figure $50 in materials saved me a little over $50K for a new boat with a surf gate. I'm going to change the original pumps and original ballast valves in the next few weeks just for my own peace of mind - everything still works fine, I just want faster pumps and while I'm dealing with them I may as well wire in some electric ballast shutoff valves.
Certainly not as cool as any of the G's but also doesn't cost as much as a small house to buy.

MikeC - can you get a 750 to fill completely in the port locker? Also, did you add any ballast up front or just stock belly tank or run the Hydrogate in Slalom? I was thinking 211's like running a little more bow weight so just curious as to how your wake was looking. I was experimenting with my stock ballast, speed, line length this weekend. I think I'm liking about 70' out at 21.5mph (good speed for me). Sorry to Threadjack

We've had ours for about 5 years and still love it. As others have said the ballast system is an early system, slow and the valves are frustrating. I would mention that many like the 07s and newer better due to prop rotation and impact on surfing. We've been very pleased with ours. Best boat I've ever owned. 10 year old is skiing and wake boarding and 4 year old is on trainers it doesn't get any better. Enjoy!
