Preferred Nautique Engine

Another Nautique newbie question (there will likely be many more in the future):

I assume like Mastercraft (i.e. MCX vs. RTP), there are several engine variations in the Nautique line. If so, which is preferred? I know that is probably subjective and varies user-to-user, but am trying to get guidance before I begin shopping for my new boat. It will be in the '04-'07 era.

Which hull and what do you primarily do, ski, board, foot, etc? Only a few PCM offerings in that time frame, all of which have proven to be very reliable.

It would be for the SV-211. We'll use it for slalom primarily at first, but will board and surf a little too.

I've got the Excalibur 330 in my SV211. Pretty happy with it and as was said should be a very reliable engine. Lots of people have it so a lot of knowledge which is helpful if you plan to do some of your own work. Plenty of engine to board and surf, not tons of pull for slalom either in this boat.

In that year range the motor will be either the 5.7L 330hp Excalibur or 6.0L 375hp ZR-6, a signature could have a 5.0L 275hp Pro Sport, probably would be a real dog in that boat.
ZR is always going to be closed loop cooling, Excal could be either.

I had the 330 in my 2005 SAN 210 without one single problem in eleven years and 560 hours. Not one. I loved that motor.

Had the excalibur 330 in our '05 211; had it for 8 years and 1000 hrs with no problems other than standard maintenance and 1 blower.

330 in our SV-211. Completely troublefree. I wouldn't want less HP though, so I would rule out the 5.0 sport. ZR6 would be fun but not required.

I've got the ZR6 in my 04. I probably would opt out of getting the Pro Sport, but the other engines are going to good no matter what you go with.

Tony - Any issues with closed cooling system in the ZR6? I had a closed system in my MC and when I swapped it out for a freshwater intake my heat gauge was much more consistent.
