New SANTE Owner Tips

New boat owner here, picked up a 2005 SANTE 210 a couple weeks ago. Starting to get the hang of everything but wanted to see if you experienced boat owners had any tips or suggestions that you wish you knew when you first started boating? Anything from trailering, launching, retrieving, driving wakeboarders, little things my boat might do that I don't know about, lake etiquette, etc. Appreciate any replies, trying to learn as much as I can as quick as I can.

This will sound obvious but........never get into too much of a hurry. Take your time launching your boat, picking up a fallen wake boarder/surfer, docking your boat, etc.
Boating and water sports can be some of the most fun you'll have but take the time to do things right and avoid mistakes and accidents.
Congratulations on your new Nautique and enjoy many great years on the water!

Don't have your model, but reading others comments suck gate work for 210 as well. ..
Made a WORLD of difference on my SV211, without it impossible to surf port side.

If you are TOTALLY new to ski/wakeboats practice and know which way your boat "backs"...meaning when you reverse the boat will typically only go one way, figure this way out because it is somewhat difficult for a newbie to understand no matter how much to turn the wheel or how much gas you give the boat will for the most part only back one way! Malibu Boat Co have a few lake/boat info videos that are kinda funny but also informative to check out. youtube some stuff and it will help

If only everyone would ask these questions when they're new to boating. Practice slow speed maneuvering out in the middle of the lake and learn how to handle your boat, and which way it pulls in reverse to use it to your advantage. You can throw a throw cushion or life jacket in the water when calm and practice edging up to it like you're docking, etc.

For water sports, tow riders in a straight line. As the driver, pick something on a far shore to line up with, and you can eye your prop wash behind you to know if you're tracking straight. When a rider falls, don't power turn. What this means is don't just hammer the gas and drive back to them under speed, as it puts waves down your line, isn't any quicker, and you have to power through your own wake. Instead, when the rider falls, slow the boat to idle while still traveling straight and then neutral, and let your stern roller pass you. Then under idle speed only turn 180, and head back to the rider down your previous path.

When approaching a rider in the water to circle them or pick them up, always keep them on the drivers side so that you, as the driver, can see them. This also gives you and the rider a chance to converse with any instruction you want to give them or feedback they want to give you (speed, etc.).

Always keep your riders safety foremost in your head. Keep your head on a swivel for other boats, kayaks, SUPs, fishermen, etc. You always have the choice to stop your boat if it will keep people safe. If you have someone following your rider too close, and you can't wave them off, turn 90 degrees, get your rider out of their path and stop or keep going on your way.

If you have speed control, learn how to use it and use it.

The biggest thing is to have fun and be safe.

Appreciate the feedback. Seems like the consensus is no power turns and I'll be good, haha. I'll be sure to keep all this in mind moving forward. Time for some wakeboarding.
