Surfing - The mythical 360 - How do I set up my G?

As a reminder, bought my first Nautique back in April. 2014 G23. LOVE IT. My youngest daughter, 15, has really taken to the boat and surfing. Let's just say her surfing skills have taken off quicker than my driving/setup skills.

She's working her heart out trying to pull off a 360 spin. She has yet to do that and stay in the pocket and behind the boat. But, I am pretty sure I don't have her in the best setup in terms of ballast/wake settings. I have tried 100 different combos.

    Any ideas?

What are your settings? What board is she riding? Do you have video? It is easier to help if we can see what she is doing. I do find trying to keep my spin down in the flats helps me ride out. When I start traveling up the wave I get kicked out the back.

Any videos of her trying ? It's probably more how/ where she's initiating the trick or what her upper body is doing.

whats your current setup and speed ?

Thanks for responding. Here is an attempt at capturing the video. This is not one of her better attempts. As for settings, I have tried everything, but mostly 5-3 at 11mph & 3-0 at 10.5mph.

Oh, and she's riding on a Ronix something... (sorry I will ask her what specific model)

11.6 seems awfully fast. 10.5-11 is sweet spot on most boats. Unless your pushing 5-6k of ballast drop the speed a bit.

Yep....we find running 11.4 to 11.6 is better on our G21.

The G23 needs to go 11.6 or more. Every boat has its sweet spot. I run mostly at 12MPH also.

So my speed is the issue more so than surf settings?

Looks like she doesn't have any forward momentum before initiating. She gets right up to the boat, stops, starts the turn and then she just aims the board up into the center of the wake which carries her out the back. She either needs to stay down in the pocket (a bit further from the boat) or build up more forward momentum before rotation if she wants to ride all the way up the face like that. Have her look on youtube for Bri Chmel.

I think with that wave she should be able to get the 360, it can take quite a few attempts to get it. No doubt there are many ways to do the 360 but when I teach people how to do them it's basically this; start farther on the back of the wave, do one or two pumps to get forward momentum, once you get closer to the boat side of the wave stay in the flats, have her drag her left hand in the wake (or both hands, but definitely left hand for her since she's regular foot) to not only initiate the turn but also to get her shoulders rotating in the correct direction, have her then look for the boat and square up her shoulders, and MOST importantly "stay low" during this whole rotation. Staying low, knees super bent, helps tremendously. The brain can only take in so much during these practices, so every time I come back around when handing the rope I repeat every time "forward momentum, drag hands in wake, look for the boat, AND STAY LOW". Anyway, probably 100 ways to do and teach this but this has worked well for me.

Guess I surf slow compared to everyone here. I am at 11mph on a 14 G.

Just watched the video. She needs to get little longer approach. (I.e. Start further back on wakes) Her body position is pretty good. The other thing if you watch video she takes a real wide hard cut towrds wake in. Most of her momentum is going across the wake rather than down the wake. I am guessing this is because that's how she's getting the speed . However for the 3 you want little more down the line speed ( i.e. Front to back). For the 3 to come around in the wake she needs to have more forward momentum and less side to side.

Thanks guys. She saw the video I posted and insisted I show you this one. She has come very, very close. This one is probably more indicative of where she is now with it. The earlier one is 3 weeks old.

If you wanna be able to pull off 360s... You gotta be willing to fall 100times to learn how to do them.

                              Watch videos.

Ride with folks that pull 360s.

                              Keep trying.
