I'm considering buying a 2002 Nautique Super Sport. It looks great, but I'm concerned that the hours meter was "reset" when the owner had the Perfect Pass system repaired. I'm naturally skeptical, but I don't want to pass on a nice boat if this is a relatively common issue. Any thoughts on this?

OK, a couple of things to consider with this question.
First, does the boat have the original Teleflex gauges? These would be the green LCD gauges. If so, and the hours are still visible in those gauges, I would consider those to likely be accurate. Chances of those gauges still being in the boat are pretty slim though, since they are notorious for failing, and most people have replaced them. The replacements have an hour gauge, but it would only be accurate from the point that the gauges were replaced.
Lots of info on these gauges and their replacements here --> Teleflex Gauge Failures
Second, on the Nautique Super Sport, Perfect Pass was not standard from the factory, so it could have been installed at a later time. The PP gauge does have its own hour reading, but again, it is only accurate from the time the PP system was installed.
Third, in 2002, there were several engine choices. If your boat happens to have a GM engine (Excalibur) the hours CAN be read from the ECU. You would need access to a DIACOM reader in order to do so. Any dealer can check this for you. This would be the only foolproof way to truly know for sure what the hours are. If the engine is a Ford (GT-40), you're out of luck here.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina.
