My family has always had Audi's for many reasons. When the allroad came out, we found out that the tow capacity is 5k. Nautiques are heavy, but are they too heavy for this car? I mean Jeeps and Mercedes and X5's have a tow capcity of 5k, why should this be any different, technically? The catch is in Germany, or Europe, the tow capacity is 5k, but in the U.S., its 3300 lbs, give or take. But that is the legal towing capcity, not the physical towing capacity. So I ask you, would you consider the allroad a car that could pull the job off? For those who don't know, it has the air suspension, which i hear is very good for towing. I know its not gonna tow like your Dodge Ram, but would you tow with this car if you had to? What do you have to say about it? Etc...

i'm sure it would be up to it, but it would cause a LOT of undo wear on the drivetrain, you would have to cut the bumper cover and slice into the wiring. i would consider the loss of value to the car at 3k. audis take alot of pedal to get going and the steering is overboosted, but they have the finest fit and finish of ANY car made.
towing capacity is based on the structural aspect and the BRAKING capability, not just power.
i make my wife drive the secondary tow vehicle. she just doesn't know it.red right return

Yeah, braking I would say is more impartant than being able to tug the ting around. If you can't stop it quickly, you will find yourself in trouble fast. Before my brother got his Silverado 1500, he had an early 90s Jeep Cherokee. Jeep s are known for their sucky brakes, and we're lucky we got the boat back safely from VA.

I don't think I would recommend towing with an Audi. As was mentioned, stopping is your most important function and it is unlikely that the Allroad would do that well. You need to be concerned with emergency manuvers. 98% of the time you'd be fine, but I can tell you my Blazer will get the boat moving well but not really stopped well. Tow for any distance and you will see.

efox, i agree...i'm sure the allroad won't tow the greatest. We actually have a blazer form 94, when it was a full size...and lemme tell ya...it doesnn't exactly stop that thing like it used to. Thats one of the reasons we are not getting the allreaod, because once a yr, we drive from nyc to maine for two weeks. Towing the boat half an hr on the interstate prob isn't so bad, but that maine trip's gotta kill...We are considering the Toureage because of it....Has anyone read the article on it and towing in the trailer boats mag?I Nautique, therefore I am.

The Toureag is supposed to be great. I keep meaning to stop by the dealer to take a look, but haven't had a chance yet. I've heard some good things about them.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. My Jeep has a rated tow capacity of 2000 lbs, it's the only thing I don't like about it. Right now, I'm saving up for an old pickup so I can tow farther than the 300 feet from my shed to the boat ramp without white knuckle syndrome.

2000K? sounds a little low for a nautique and for a jeep...thats what our audi S6 can tow and it doesn't pull an 800 lb jet ski very well....The good thing about our audi tow veachle for our jet ski was that my dad upgraded his brakes to the ones from porshe..they actually say "porshe" on it just like the 911 and Cayanne and others...so it gets the boat stopped pretty well!
I also think that disk brakes are practically a must for towing..esp when going long distances...I Nautique, therefore I am.

i always tow with something that weighs more than what i am towing. after that the pucker factor is to high.
AbunDiga909, i hate to correct when i am such a terrible speller and my grammar is worse. it's ferry porsche. porsche is having some teething problems with the new ceramic brakes, but that will be the standard on all cars in a few years.red right return
