Trying to Join the Nautique Family

    Hey guys,
Looking to move from a Gen 2 Mastercraft into a Nautique.
    Looking to jump into a 2014 230 or G21.
Two on my radar right now.

    Mostly surf, wake skate, cruise.

    Couple questions for the community.

    1. G21 has a ZR 550 in it. Is it the guzzler everyone proclaims? Fuel isn't something i'm too worried about but i figured id ask. Reliability of the Turbo?

    2. Being 2014 they have the NSS, major changes from 2014-2016 other than the speed of the actuators on the 16's?

    3. Crew is usually 4-5. So thats why i'm leaning to the 21. Opinions on cabin space and noone sitting in the bow?
    4. G21 vs 230 is about a 8k - 10k difference. It must be a no brainer to go to the 230 right?
I'm sure more will come up but we'll see.

    thanks

Can only speak to 1. The 550 is a gas guzzler, yes, and it's supercharged, not a turbo.

230 would be my choice for a 10k difference.
      It's a very good surfing boat and I prefer the look of a 230 over a G21.
Surf wave will probably be longer than a G21.

i was all set on getting a g21 because i have a 2015 210 and thought it would be the next step for a better surf wake. but the truth is the surf wake is better on the 210. I spent an entire day with the g21 and it is a nice boat but you cant ski behind it and because they didnt change the hull like they did the g23 it is totally different. I would not rule out a 210 until you test one. the 230 is basically the same but stretched. the smaller and lighter the boat the more effective the ballast. that is what translates to the wake. if you want a 23 and dont want to spend what it takes for the g23 i would say the 230 is a great option

I have a 2014 230. When properly weighted the 230 surf wave is hard to beat. G series included.

230 is a pretty nice ride and does about all things well. Amazingly enough there are not many at my dealer and haven't been this year. However this one is on the market!!!

230 is great, just may need to add more weight/ballast to get a G equivalent surf wave imho...have a 230 and love it, but did add some extra for some extra push.

Thanks all for the replies. Wondering about the history and reliability of the Zr-550. You're definitely right. Not a lot of 230's available at all. I'm also in Canada and appreciate the heads up with regards to available boats but some of the travel would be prohibitive. Though Guntersville that's a beauty 230.

What are you replacing it with?

Are you absolutely looking for a 2014+ ?
There are some 08-10 for sale in Canada and the hull is the same. Only change is the transom to have a better fit with NSS.

Yes. 14+. Doesn't make sense to me to go back in time. I have a 13' now. Like the new transom's, seadek, seating arrangements, linc. etc

230 is by far the sexiest boat on the water.

Not sure how this is even a question. The XR550 more than makes up the 8-10k difference and your resale on the backend will be substantially better for a G series than a 230.

As as far as your reliabliity question, I've got a 2014 G21 with the 550 and haven't had a single issue. Yes it is a gas guzzler, but you can throw as much weight and people in the boat as you want and never worry if it will get on plane or not.
