    GT40 vs. Excalibur??

The Excalibur is an upgrade right? Do most like it better? What do you think the $$ value of the upgrade is on a 2002 boat?

Excel is drive by wire so you can add Zero Off.

I think that's really the major difference and I wouldn't expect much of a cost difference.

Other than that there aren't many big differences. Use the search, this has been discussed several time before.

I wouldn't say it's an upgrade... Both great motors the gt40 is a ford and excal is a gm. There was a certain year I think PCM made the switch to GM motors.

I don't think the Excalibur went to DBW until 06 or 07.

Both good motors. Excal wouldn't be an upgrade- it essentially replaced the gt40 in the lineup. '02 was the only year both were offered. Gt40 is a little quicker out of the hole, Excal is a little faster up top. Dbw didn't come until '06.

Agree, I've owned both. GT40 in my 96 sport and excal in my 04 210. They are different but not necessarily an upgrade over the GT40.

If by upgrade you mean more money, then the answer is probably yes. As a comparison, in 1999 the Apex (1st Gen Excal) was a $550 option/upcharge from the GT-40, don't have a price sheet from 2002 but would imagine it was in the $800-$1000 range that year. Assuming the value is based on HP, GT-40 @ 310, Apex @ 320, Excal @ 330. Today on a used boat I would put them at equal value unless you had a personal preference.

Ditto on both being great engines, I actually wish I had the GT40 in my 2006 SN. The low end torque of the GT40 is just awesome. NOTE: 2007 is the first year Zero Off is supported - you can verify this on their website. I researched it earlier this year as I wanted to swap out my PP for ZO on my 2006 but I can't.

One advantage the excal has is the engine hours are stored directly in the engine, thus one can verify the hour gauge is correct. With the GT40, you have to trust the hours on the gauge are correct. Remember, the gauge can be replaced and most likely was with the faulty Teleflex gauges that came with that vintage.
