Hey guys. Need some advise. I'm thinking of switching over from my Mastercraft x-23 to a G-23 for next summer. Ive surfed a G23 and a G25 and they both lack the push that i need. I'm having to slow down to 10.2 or 10.3 and surf right at the platform albeit there was only a driver in the the boat both times with factory ballast. I'm a big guy 6'-1" 265lbs. My question is has anyone else experienced this and would additional ballast really help the issue? I don't want to make a mistake. My X-23 is surfing just fine with factory ballast and around 400 lbs of lead. Thanks in advance guys!

NSS at 0 and NCRS at 5 is the setting that will give you the steepest wave. Are you sure the ballast was full? The G23 with those settings should have great push. Where are you in NC? If you feel like coming to Lake Norman, you're welcome to come try my 2016 G23 (very similar to the '17, and my '17 will be here in about 2 weeks).I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. Surfed the G25 today at Jordan Lake. 2016 full factory ballast. Driver only in boat. NSS AT 0 NCRS AT 5 and had to slow down to 10.3 and get 3 feet from platform to stay in the sweet spot. Like I said I'm a big guy 265lbs. Maybe need more ballast? Will this help? We switched up and I drove and he got way back plenty of push same settings but 11.2. He weighs around 175 or less I would guess. I may take you up on your offer.

I'm 210#. My 2013 G25 with just my wife and two sons (small 13 and 15 year olds) will produce a surfable wake but candidly I struggle to stay in the sweet spot. I'm not a very good surfer so I think that is a lot of the issue. I have to ride pretty hard on my front foot to keep up.
Late in the summer we threw a 900# bag in each rear locker and a 600# bag in the bow. The wave was unreal. It was all I could do to not get thrown into the back of the boat. The push was incredible enough that I'm plumbing in those bags and buying some lead bags for the bow.
Remember the G25 spreads its weight across a larger surface area so the factory ballast makes it sit different than a G23. The same can be said between a G23 and G21. I think adding that extra ballast to the rear of the G25 produces an incredible wave when not fully loaded with passengers. I don't think you even need 900 in each to make a difference. 500# in each probably gets you there since the weight is so far back in the boat.

Blake- I think you might want to search for a new board. I think there are plenty out there that would be great behind a G at your size.
That said, if you are looking for a better wave than the X23........... switching to a G23 would be the wrong move IMO. If you are looking for a better wakeboard wake, than you would be making the right move.
Still.......the G has an awesome wave and you should be able to find a combo that works great for you.

I'm surprised to hear that a few people feel that the X23 produces a better wave than the G23. I have no personal experience with either boat, but I thought the G23 was the ultimate surf machine. Perhaps I'm just spending too much time on PN.2007 Malibu Wakesetter 23 LSV, 1995 Cobalt 200

Doc demoed when they first launched. He did a fairly comprehensive demo, but it was a cold winter demo, no time was spent trying to dial any settings, and the dealer didn't even have experience with it yet. I can tell you that the original set of stock settings for the X23 were less than optimal.
I owned an X23, and put roughly 110 hours on it. It took me a little bit to get the tab settings dialed in. MasterCraft also started sending out a revised chart for settings, which really made a huge difference.
After a full season, and 140 hours on my 2016 G23, I can say that it has an awesome wave......... but no, it's not as good as the X23. If I didn't wakeboard, I would have gone back to an X23 for next year.

I respectfully disagree with that assessment of the X23. I wanted to love it and even demoed it again using Wayward's settings and IMO it is vastly inferior to the G.
Personal preference maybe but you couldn't give me a big enough discount to go from a G to an X23

Thanks for the input guys. So I guess I better plan on extra ballast if I go the G-23 route then..... I'm using 2 different boards. One is an Inland Surfer Red Rocket and my other board which happens to be my favorite is my skim board a Phase 5 Trident. Both boards are made for big guys and I've never had issue with either. Used them on my previous boat (2012 x-30) as well as my 2015 x-23. Don't get me wrong, I really like my x-23, just wanted to try something different for 2017. Wayward, what magic settings did you use that worked really well on your x-23??? Thanks!
