Best Colors for resale value?

I'm still contemplating ordering a new boat, but I can't decide on colors. Even though I know blues are very popular, I'm not a huge fan of blue on a boat (ironically my boat is mostly navy blue). I really like the following color combos:

white with red accent
black with white accent
red with black accent,
red, metallic grey, and black,
red, black, and white,
black with sublime metal flake green accent,
black, metallic grey, and sublime metal flake green

I know this is kind of a generic question with out showing the boats that I have built on the Nautique website, but I have built several using these color combos and I like them all. So my question is which of these color combos would appeal to most people when I eventually sell the boat? I'm not looking to to get more money at resale because of color. I'm looking for colors that appeal to the most people which in theory make the boat easier and quicker to sell.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

So it seems like you've already covered the basics when it comes to resale:

- No 'wacky' colors. Yea, that purple and lime green is striking, but very few people are going to like it.

- Be careful with that "black with white accent." Black boats are incredibly hot. One of my buddies had a 2002 SAN and it was tough to live with in July and August.

- All those you have with "sublime green" are going to appeal to a small audience.

- Don't underestimate the appeal of the local sports teams colors! My dealer brings a red and black boat to the Spring show every year and the NC State fans love it.

- Anyway, outside of that, stick with basic colors. Blues, Grays, Dark Greens, Reds, etc.

Red, Black, and White would definitely appeal to all of the University of Georgia fans here in GA. I never really thought I would like green on a boat, but I've really started to like it especially the sublime green against a dark boat. But that's why I posted this question. I wanted to see how others felt about green to see if I should scrap it.

It's called "resale red" for good reason We once jumped on the latest trend and bought a teal MC. 3 years later, it was ugly and unsellable. Fortunately, it was in for dealer service, and they dropped an I beam on it (don't know the details, just know what happened!), and were forced to give us a good trade value on a new one. We then went with blue = safe.

I just went out to "Design your Nautique" and pulled up Sublime Metal Flake Green. It's cool and all and I like it too, but I would NOT go with this for resale. This color is trendy right now and a lot of people are into it. A few years from now it may be out of style and make it tough to sell.

Oh yes I remember the days of pink, teal, and purple. Glad I never made that mistake even though I liked the looks of teal back in the day.

Laugh all you want, but colors aren't just colors. If you plan to only keep the boat a few years before moving on, you really need to think about them. You can have have the perfect boat for sale. All the right options, right condition, right price.... and if his wife says the colors are "ugly" then he's not going to buy it.

I totally disagree. My Malibu was in pristine condition and in many ways better than when I bought it new, but I had a hard time selling it because the colors (beige and black) which my wife picked out, weren't flashy enough for the majority of buyers. Especially when there were lots of red, blue, or black boats on the market.

If you need confirmation, ask swc5150 how much fun it was to sell a teal MC with a pink accent stripe.

My point is if I'm on the fence having trouble deciding between colors, I want to go with the one that will be the easiest to resell. There is a lot of work involved with showing and selling a boat especially if you store it 30-40 minutes from your house. Test drives at the lake take time too. So a quick sale is worth a lot to me. Time is money. Plus if you are itching for that new boat, you don't want to wait along time for yours to sell.

For what its worth, here is the GS20 that we ordered. We went with the Red, White and Black. The things to note: we went with the black hull as our experience is that a white hull becomes off-yellow if it stays in the water (and ours does) whereas the black doesn't show the scum/discolorization as much. We went with the Surf platform graphics but deleted the decal (again to keep it timeless). Also, the hull metal flake red is much darker than the pictures (more of a blood red). Finally, we avoided black on the platform and rear vertical surfaces because our experience with a sport 200 is that black badly shows water spots - hence the white. The "lower deck" is black metal flake (doesn't show waterspots as bad). The black chrome looked great on the showroom floor.

True...true...but i'm talking more about making your wife happy...not the potential boat buyers wife!!!....What I was saying was, pick the colors you want for you and your family to enjoy while you have the boat......not for the next buyer to buy your used boat faster. I get it...but just find if funny so many Nautique buyers worry about resale colors. Where have you been since 1957??? It's a SKI NAUTIQUE.....someone will buy it....guaranteed.

You keep pushing to ignore the TIME it takes to sell. The people that are paying really close attention to colors are the ones who aren't going to keep a boat more than 3 or 4 years before trading it. When this crowd decides to sell a boat, they need it to go now. Not in a month, NOW. If they can pick colors that aren't an encumbrance to that goal, then they've made a good decision.

Yea, sure, eventually it'll sell because it's a Nautique, but you have to recognize that blue and white are going to sell MUCH quicker than teal and pink any day.
