    G23 changes through the years

just sold my boat and looking to upgrade to possibly a G23. I can't really swing a brand new boat so I have been looking at used. Are there any real diffferences from 2013 to 2016. We mainly surf kids do a little wakeboarding.

I don't have a G23, but I'm sure others will chime in. Most noticeable are probably the gear ratio change (not sure what year), the throttle change....2015.....the non-spray bow modification on the 2016 and I'm sure there are a few others. As far as simplistic thinking...23 foot Nautique G...making a surf wave or wakeboard wave....you and your family surfing and boarding...NOT much difference from 2013 to 2017. It's not like a Ford Focus vs. a Ferrari........

The hull change in 2016 improved the stock surf wave enough that I would only consider 2016+ if you primarily surf, as well as fixing the hull spray in windy conditions issue. The 2017 screen change is also nice but is mainly aesthetics and wouldn't keep me from a 2016.

2014 the 2:1 gearbox fit all engines except the 550. I think the 550 also got the 2:1 gearbox in 2016. 2016 the non spray bow with improved surf wake.

Regarding the non-spray hull, is that spray only a factor when it's windy or all the time?

How is the surf wake different between the years we're talking about?

Interesting info here. Curious, what overall value is the 2:1 gearbox? I assume you then run a different prop pitch due to the rpm change in the gearbox? Does this become more efficient in some way?

One other MAJOR change people are forgetting is the motor! In 2016, Nautique introduced the new PCM H5 and H6 motors. As far as the G23 is concerned, the H6 is the way to go. It would be comparable to the 450 of previous years but has more torque and runs much more efficient. Also, the hull changes in 2016 were nice, which included the spray deflectors in the front (yes, they do help tremendously IMO, however there is still some spray), and better integration of the NSS in the rear. This made the surfing quite noticeably better. The wake transfer is also a little quicker starting in 2016. The wakeboard wake is about the only thing that didn't change very substantially throughout the years which is actually a good thing since it's pretty much a perfect wake!

Thanks for all of the information guys. Its just making it harder for me though lol. I cant really afford any of the '16's I have found so far but who knows. Maybe one will pop up over the winter at a smoking price.

That price is either a scam or a non-seaworthy boat.

I recently traded my 2013 g23 on a 2017 g23. I think that the 2:1 transmission is nice but there is significant cost savings getting a used 2013. The 1.5:1 transmission does just fine with the 450 or better engine. I had plumbed in extra ballast and had no problems getting on plane quickly wakeboarding or wakesurfing.

Have you looked at the listing? Not saying it isn't a scam but they sure made it look legit.

This makes sense for the price point.

That's good to hear. I can be in the 90ish price range but I don't want to go much higher than that. I'm paying cash and don't want a loan. Thanks for the info.

The only reason i would tend to stay away from a 2013...is uhh, how do i say this...the propeller shafts are known to break and leave you stranded....oh my that is a 2014....wonder what tranny?
