If price is main driver I would go for a 2014. You avoid the problems and get most of the non-esthetic improvements.
H5 & H6 engines I am sure they perform perfectly today but they do not have enough history yet

Bringing this thread back for a question. Difference between 2015 & 2016 G23’s?

2016: Got “spray” issue fixed, different engine design offerings, gelcoat changed, JL Instead of Polk, control knob near throttle, new drivers seat design

Is that about if for the differences?

        550 got 2:1 gear ratio

Rear hull shape changed slightly to better integrate with NSS. Some say surfing wave is better because of and others say no difference.

just to be clear, the 16 got JL speakers, but still has the Polk head unit.

17s have JL speakers and Polk head too. The 18s moved to JL head units

Thanks everyone for the clarifications. I’d prefer a ‘16 but there’s such a wide discrepancy in used pricing between ‘15’s and 16’s..

If nothing else IMHO, I would go with the 16 vs 15 because the hull design was vastly improved to reduce water spray problems on the 16s. This was a huge difference.

Yup that's because the 16 is a way better boat IMO. Also the overall gel coat scheme is much improved. Once I learned all these improvements it was 16 or bust.

Can someone explain to me how such a huge boat can have so much spray into the boat? I’ve never had a problem with any other boat, but zero G experience

Just when it's windy. Specifically, when you're driving into the wind.

The original G bow is nearly flat almost like an old-school tri-hull so it doesn't really cut the water out front. In a head wind the water can bounce off and the wind will blow it up.

The 16 has a more protruding fiberglass flare on the bow that cuts the oncoming water. On my 16 I've only had spray issue onto the rear seats in a very serious side wind. Typical for any runabout.

Yup. It also looks better on the water IMO. Less "whale-ish", more aesthetically pleasing lines.

I had both a 15 and 16. I purchased new specifically because of the spray. In roaming the forums, I have found that it is not a big deal to some like it was for me. I live in the desert, and desert means wind. If my only use for the boat were to wakeboard, or when it is calm, I wouldn't worry, but surfing in the wind or tubing around when it is windy, the wind blows the water straight up the side of the boat and into the entire boat, not just the bow.

For some parts of the country and with certain usage habits, this is not a problem at all.
