The factory cover is very nice in terms of fit. The material not close to sunbrella tho. It works well if you trailer your boat or keep it on a lift. If you remove your cover often (sometimes multiple times per day for me in unpredictable New England weather) or keep your boat tied to a dock it is a PIA as it covers the cleats and the pole setup sucks.

We Got a custom dock cover made by my local canvas dude for use when the boat stays at the dock (often).

Can these premium steering wheels be retrofitted on older models such as a 211?

Yes they can but make sure your sitting down when you call for the price! After I made that call ... I thought my stock steering was looking pretty darn good !

Kmaotte, I see a lot of pics similar to yours where it shows a $150,000 boat dock tied to the end of a pier. In Texas most people have "boat houses" which are covered and uses a lift to get the boat out of the water. I suspect this is a regional thing, or maybe even a lake restriction thing. Just curious if you were allowed to fabricate and install a fixed, rigid cover (like a carport) or even place a lift at your location to protect your beautiful boat?

again, I bet this is a lake thing like some of those lakes that limit people to a 20 foot boat. In Texas we just don't have rules like this, so I was just curios.

The build sheet from our boat says it was optioned with a premium steering wheel. This is what ours looks like - now I'm curious what the non-premium steering wheel looks like?

I think there are just a lot of boat owners who don't live on the lake? I rent a boat slip at our marina on a nearby lake for the season. No boathouse with cover and no lift available - simple as that. Pretty common but there are lots of lakefront properties with boat houses and lifts here also.

I guess I assumed that pic was of his property. If it was just a dock that he had pulled up to, that makes sense.

so that's where my question was directed. If it was his property, could he make those changes? I have seen a lot of pictures that are clearly people's personal property with nothing more than a pier.

may just be my assumption based on his pic.

Actually, I think you are correct SupraFly. Pretty sure in another post about using whips he mentioned this was his personal setup. Other factor might simply be additional cost.

That's what I find interesting though. Someone that has a $150k boat isn't usually too concerned with $$$.

im not trying to be difficult or rude. I'm simply curious. I see a TON of pictures that show similar setups (so it's clearly normal) and I'm trying to figure out the rationale.

Even if it is his personal set up, he may not live there and may usually just visit for a weekend or so. I see this a lot on my lake. The cost of building a boat dock with a lift to support a G could range up to $100k (granted this is for a very nice dock). To somebody who may not use the dock all the time, it may not justify the cost!

I am also in Texas and used to seeing boats on a lake stored on a lift of some sort with a roof structure over it. I have always assumed that the northern lakes don't have those because of ice and the havoc it could wreak on fixed docks. My understanding is marinas in the north store client boats in stacked storage and then as summer approaches they get them down and moor them in the water. Essentially the boat is in the water all summer and stored over winter. Could be wrong but I visited a marina in Maine and thats what they said they did

SupraFly and Beg4wake Let me clear this up for you

This is my families (parents) house. We have docking for 5 boats (FIVE!) plus a mooring. We're lucky enough to be grandfathered in with two big docks. No way we could ever have this much with all the new regulations if it were a new construction.

The opposite side of our property from my spot has a U shape dock with a canopy where my dad parks his boat (see pic). The G wouldn't fit width or height wise anyway but I would love the shade if it did. He has a Cobalt under there now (old Baja in pic) so he wouldn't give it up anyway.

I could probably add a boat lift without too much trouble from the state (permit would be required) but we certainly couldn't add another "boat house" type structure that you're alluding to. My wife and I couldn't justify the expense on a boat lift this year but maybe in the future.

We typically shrink wrap our boats and keep them in the yard for the winter. This year I opted for indoor heated storage.

                            Hope that clears it up!

PS: Sorry for the thread Hi-jack!
