    Gs20 vs 2016 vtx

I currently have a 2016 vtx with just over 40 hours on the clock 20 hours done in December.. Last year when I purchased the boat I came very close to buying a sport 200. We live in New Zealand so the market is small. Where we do our boating there are 7 near new nautiques and only 3 malibus. We are happy with the Malibu and I'm pleased I purchased it over the sport 200. Last week I saw a gs20 on our lake for the first time and it looks to be at another level. It just looks to have everything! . The Malibu has a few things that I'm not a fan of, the carpet floor (I know this can be changed), having to have extra ballast bags and the huge amount of upholstery that wet riders need to walk over to get into the boat. The G3 tower folds just low enough to get into my garage but there is only 2cm of clearance.

we currently run full factory ballast plus. 650 bow triangle and two bags in the back lockers, the locker bags are all plumbed in but the front bag is a pain.

has anyone got experience skiing and surfing behind both boats? We don't wakeboard often. I have read the gs20 surfs better just with factory ballast? when I skied behind the sport 200 it was better than my current vtx.

I'm in the process of ordering a GS20 and can't really give you feed back about skiing or surfing behind the GS20 because I haven't had a chance to do try it yet. I'm mostly going on feedback from others. I will be going from a 2011 SAN 210 and I have been assured by several people that the GS20 will produce a better surf and wakeboard wake than my 210.

Some will say that I'm crazy for buying a boat that I haven't tested, but I have my reasons for trading my current boat in now, plus the GS20 fits my needs from a price standpoint and a size standpoint. Am I giving up some surfability by not going with a G23?...Sure I am, but I'm also keeping another $40,000 in the bank and the GS gives me a lot more options on where I store the boat and it tows a lot easier if I want to take a road trip. Some of these boats have gotten so big and heavy that they have become difficult to manage IMO. I'm looking for something a little easier to live with.

As a former Malibu owner, I understand what you are saying about your Malibu. I liked my Malibu, but vowed to never own another boat with wall to wall carpet or without a sunpad walk-through.

I've been behind the GS20. Surf wave was very nice with stock ballast. That also left a ton of room under the seats and sun pad. And of course, no upholstery to walk over. The whole boat felt very well thought out and was well put together.

The ski wake is good for a V drive. Not direct drive small, but very good for a crossover. I haven't been behind a VTX to be able to compare them.

      Good luck.

GS20 specs show its 1250 pounds heavier than the sport 200 v drive, and 1700 pounds heavier than an SN200 direct drive. Its a 1000 pounds heavier than the VTX. That's a lot of extra weight for it to have a comparable ski wake to the Sport 200.

We have owned two Sport 200's and three VTX's. Demoed the GS200 in September. The ski wake is as good as the Sport 200 and much better than the revised for 2016 VTX. Did not have time to play around with different speeds and line lengths which would be interesting given that the tow point is much further back than the other two boats. Skied the usual 15 off at 32 mph. Surf wake is amazing. Using the stock settings and with only two people in the boat it blew away our SAN 210 with pro ballast and five people in the boat. Push is unbelievable! First impression I couldn't find anything about the boat I didn't like. Lots of room, lots of storage and drives like a DD.

That's a nice first-hand comparison. That sounds like a big accomplishment for such a heavy boat.

I traded my 2014 sport 200 in for the GS20 after skiing and surfing behind the GS20. At 15 off, 32 mph, I always found the sport 200 had a significant rooster tail. The GS20 got rid of this, resulting in much smoother wake crossings.

bakerdr27 How are you liking your GS? Are you still happy with the trade from the 200? I would love to hear you matured opinion?
