    SN2001 vdrive conversion info

im toying with the idea of trying the conversion on my 83. I know it has been done a couple of times in the past and I am only able to locate 1 build thread and one mention of a thread from the2001.com below is a copy and paste of my thread on ccf

"Hello everyone. I'm looking for more info on any other v drive conversions out there.

I have read form and functions thread about 3x now.

And 84resto chimes in that thread with helpful tips since he completed a conversion on a 2001 also. From what I can gather he had a build thread on the2001.com which I guess is no longer in existence. His, again from what I can gather is pictured in this thread.

I am about to be doing a stringer project, I have a thread started for that. But I can't get the idea of going with a conversion out of my head, my plan when I bought this 2001 last year was to get, wakeboard behind it for a few years and "upgrade" to a vdrive for the extra room. Mainly to avoid climbing around the motor box all day while hanging out, not to mention when the ballast bags are full. The wife would also appreciate the sun deck in the rear.

Now that my wife and I are expecting, it may be increasingly difficult to upgrade to a new boat, triggering this desire to convert. It may be more practical to change this one over while it is torn down, get it usable, and continue to restore in the future.

Any info can help me in this decision and especially if anyone can put me in touch with someone who has completed one, or is just a guru in that sort of thing. Or could somehow wiki leaks the info and pictures in that old the2001 thread. "

    Thanks,
    Trevor

I have never looked into it, and I understand your desire, but feel that you would be further ahead finishing the stringer job on the 2001 back to original and then selling to upgrade to a v-drive. No doubt a conversion is possible, but just think that by the time you buy the v-drive unit (and assuming you could reuse the trans), and somehow get it to fit, you will have spent a good chuck of money, invested a huge amount of time (which will become more rare with a new baby) and ultimately end up will not much room for seating in a 19ft boat. Not to mention that you would then have a frankenstein boat that you probably could not sell.

I know its not what you wanted to hear, but wanted to offer a few things you may not have thought about.

Thinking the same thing he said. Not what you want to hear but will definitely be harder to sell when the time comes and may even hurt your resell value. I'd finish your boat and try to find a good deal on a neglected vdrive model boat and spend your time resources fixing it up instead.

Is this even possible without being cost prohibitive?

I'm gonna say probably not, if it was done to an older 2001 you would want to redo all the stringers too and that would be very costly along with everything else involved.
