Nautique 206 with PCM 5.0 275 HP Engine

I am looking at upgrading boats from a 1991 Nautique CB with the 240 HP carb engine and found a 2003 Nautique 206 for sale with less than 300 hours that includes a tower and ballast tanks. It has the base 275 HP engine and doesn't include all the bells and whistles such as the push button start and key pad which is fine with me. The purpose of the upgrade is to get a little more room. I am getting older so I don't ski as much as I used to but I still plan on doing some recreational skiing on the weekends such as wakeboarding, a little footing, mostly two skiing and tubing for my nieces and nephews. I like the idea of the tower and tanks since I mostly just load the 91 up with people and use an extended pylon currently. I do want to stay with the direct drive models. What are peoples experience with the 206 and how do they like the 275 HP engine? I know some seem to think that you need to go big or go home but coming from the 240 HP (haven't had any issues form a skiing standpoint, double barefooting is a little tough) if I can get a decent price on the 206 with the base engine might be the way to go. Also, what are people seeing for the prices in this year range. Thanks.

I'd want to see the top speed on that boat with that engine for footing. I had a 206 with the 330 excel, and it topped out around 42 to 43. I would for sure test drive a 206 with the smaller engine and GPS the top speed to make sure that the boat does what you need it to do for footing.

I would add the 206 is generally a great boat. We loved ours.

        Thanks Jack,
I would definitely test drive before I bought it, however, it is about 1200 miles away from my current location so I want to be pretty confident that I was going to make the purchase before I made the trip. Thanks for the info.

Are u at elevation Jack because my 206 easily runs out faster then that with the 330?? I have pulled 3 footers up deep start and 4 with step offs??
Dkimball, neighbor buddy has an 04 206 with the 275, driven, skied and footed behind it without a problem, never GPS the top speed but I would guess only a few mph less then the 330. The slalom wake will also be an improvement over your 91.

I have a 208 206 - love the boat. Great ski wake and room for the family. We have the 343, so can't comment on the 275 engine, but I can't see how it wouldn't be stronger than the '91. Nice to have the tower too as it gets some of the gear out of the boat and gives you more room inside.

We were in Dallas when I owned that boat; sold it in 08-09ish when a job changed forced a move. I'll leave open the possibility I am misremembering top speed but 42-43 sticks out in my mind. That said, I really loved that 206, it was a fantastic boat.

Thanks guys. It sounds like most people are pretty happy with the 206's. How is the wake with the ballast filled?

Can't comment on the 206. But I have the 5.0 in my 196.

I regular drive my boat vs my buddies 196 with the 330. I really don't notice the difference on the pulling a skirt out of the water. There is one guy that I have to give WOT but he is 220# and has the mass of a brick.

I am curious now. It would be cool if someone posted some recent top-speed GPS numbers on a 5.0l 206.

Jack, perhaps this spring after our lake transforms back to liquid form.
The difference is much more noticeable while under load.
