Pic of boat rail system on forums?

Hey a while back someone posted a pic of his nautique, and had a picture of his railway system. I believe he was in the midwest?
I did a search and can't find it, anyone know the author, or remember the subject?

    thanks,
    Jack

I thought that was odd. Seems like Miljacks post was entered twice. Whatever. BKH

Do a google on Hewitt boat lifts. Its called a roll-a-rail. If you have a gradual slope on you shoreline, its the way to go. In the fall prior to freeze up, I just take out 4 bolts and drag the rail out of the water.

Anyone else have marine railways to get your boat onto the shore or into a boathouse? I am currently building one and am planning on winching in and out of the boathouse to avoid having to build a sloped track in my boathouse. When I poured the concrete for my boathouse floor I cast two 2x4's in to allow me to remove them and add 3" channel iron for my track and not tripping over it all the time. I have since decided to use 4" channel iron for the track, so it will stick out of my floor a bit. I built my legs so that I can adjust each one separately, and fine tune the top of the track to keep it level all of the time. My track is built and almost complete, now I have to get the wood inserts out of my floor which is proving to be difficult, then finish my cart and mount the winch. If anyone has a winch that also winches the boat out I would like to hear about it! This pic is of one of the legs in primer.

There's a bunch of rail systems on our lake. They're grandfathered in, so no new ones can be built, but the old ones can be rebuilt and used. We're always seeing a boat in a difficult situation due to the rusting of the metal underground. If I were to build one, I would go the extra mile to seal the metal as much as possible.

Thanks, do people leave them in all winter or take some or all of the sections out?

I leave mine in all winter but it is above ground and not built in to any concrete pad. I live on a man made lake and dont have any ice flow issues to worry about in the spring.

We're in Texas so they stay in the water permanently. Water is salty/brackish from the salt fork of the Brazos and is tough on metal of any kind. Probably why the BRA banned any more from being constructed.

I disconnect mine at the shore line -- then pull the 'dry section' and cart up the shore a little ways. Then I pull the submerged section deeper - and away from where there's any possibility of ice damage.

That's a tall stand -- how much elevation difference between your garage and the lake surface?

The boathouse slab is 2' thick, water level varies, I'm going with 50' of track, it gets me into water about 4' minimum on a low level year. My legs are adjustable for settling into the bottom, but the leg lengths are 48", 39", 27", 20" ( I think, going from memory). 4" channel for track, then 2" inside of 2.5" square tubing for the legs with 1" angle for the cross pieces. Should be strong enough. I see one guys system uses what looks like 5/8" sucker rod for legs and claims it is good for a 4000# boat......

Finally got the track fixed in the boathouse floor on the weekend.
