    Ye' ole boat lift question?

Were going to buying a lift and canopy very shortly. The boats a 220 and we will be getting roughly a 7k lift. The question is what do people prefer galvanized or aluminum. We are on a fresh water lake so corrosion really won't be that much of issue if at all.I'm leaning towards the Basta in galvanized,to me it's just seems far more substantial. What are others thoughts?

I haven't paid close attention but I believe a vast majority of the boat lifts in Michigan are aluminum. One of the main differences is that the aluminum lift is much lighter, roughly half the weight. That's a huge benefit when having to take the lift out of the water every winter before the lake freezes then back in the water in the spring. Not sure how cold your winters get but if your not taking out the lift every winter then the weight difference may not be an issue for you.

Yep, depends on where you are. Here in NC we don't really have trouble with the lakes freezing so the vast majority of the lifts are galvanized.

Is there any benefit to galvanized over aluminum of the same capacity rating?

I believe there is a 300lb difference the steel being 7,000lb and the aluminum being 6700lb.They did mention that aluminum would be more likely to break if overloaded.Where as the galvanized would more then likely just not go up.I wouldn't be taking it and out during winter, everyone leaves them in year round.
