RE: SAN 210 2000 hours on engine - buy or not?

PCM says a rebuild is usually around 2000 to 2400 hours I think I would run a compression check. If it looks good then I would go ahead knonwing I was a year or 2 away from a $1500.00 expense. Does the owner have the maintainance records? If ti has been well maintained there shouldn't be a problem

It all depends on how the previous owner took care of it. If they changed the oil regurarly, kept it clean, never let it get over heated, and other things of that nature there is no reason that enging shouldn't last to 4000 hrs.

On a vehicle, 2000 hrs is approximately 50,000 miles. Now, I realize boats travel at a much slower speed (cars travel highway speeds when they go places), where as a boat's "highway" speed is somewhere around 35.

          I just purchased a SNOB w/ 1,500 hours - runs great.

I agree with surroundsound64 - as long as it has been maintained - engine should be fine.

I would pay special attention to how hard it's been run (avg. rpm)...what' the interior condition like...is the current owner particular about he/she takes care of things in general?

If these check out - I wouldn't let hours deter you.

i wish i had time to put 2000 hours on a boat in 4 years!!!!

go for it, i bet the price is right and the motor should be great if it was maintained----

Just to double check are you sure it's not 200 hrs? are you counting the tenth or after the decimal? Just seems like a hugh number for a 2002 that's 500hrs/yr on average, just a thought

The only way it could have 200 hours is if it was used by a rich man's son, or it was a school boat. The school boat should be a good buy, the rich man's son, probably not a good buy.

I only have 130 hours on my '02, so I wish I could just do 100 hours a year.

I would only purchase it if the current owners are willing to provide you with Service Records. Taking their word, if they did it in house, would be far too risky for that amount of hours. Just my 2 cents.

Just get it checked out like everyone has said. It will probably be fine. Just a question, was synthetic oil used. It just seems like with an engine that works that hard synthetic would be a no brainer.
BTW...I have a 2002 SANTE with 670 hours on it. I've almost had it 2 years and have averaged 520 hours per year. I work at least 40 hours a week so it is possible. You just have to have no life other than work and wakeboarding. ha ha...I think it's worth it.

I'm teasing ag4ever that not all boats driven by sons of rich dads are bad. I thought it was obvious.
