Opinions on SAN 230 wakeboard wake

I'm close to pulling the trigger on a 2014 SAN 230 with NSS, but I've heard there may be issues with the wakeboard wake washing out unless you go pretty fast (+22mph). I have an 8 year old who loves to wakeboard so this is a huge concern. Any advice on this boat vs a Moomba Mojo or Mastercraft NXT22 would be much appreciated.

yeah, don't get a 230....washy unless very weighted or speed up. you are finding correct info...others can post what they want...but it is what it is. one of my buddys had one and it is what it is. however. when you get it right it is massive and fun...

i would not necessarily not get a nautique because of that...just get something else...

Thanks, scottb7. Any thoughts on a 2017 Moomba Mojo or 2017 Mastercraft NXT22?

Just keep in mind you won't get any boat with a clean wake for an 8 year old, assuming you are pulling them at a reasonable speed for that age. I consider our 7 year old daughter a pretty good rider for her age and on calm days we pull her at 15 mph and not so calm closer to 13.5. There is not a V-drive that I know of that will clean up down to that speed. We have a 210 and it's close, can get one side clean, at 16, but won't clean up until we put a few more mph's on it.

Both of the boats The Mojo and the NXT will have much more user friendly wakes. Especially for the kiddos. On the flip side the 230 will have a much better fully loaded pro caliber wake.

Between the Mojo and the NXT hands down the Mojo is a much more luxurious feeling boat with tons of amenities . Sure your gonna hear a huge argument from MC loyalists and the dealer that the NXT series is stamped with the MC name and thus with that has MC build quality. The fact of the matter is the Mojor when compared directly to the NXT line has the same build quality , with a few more luxuries and a much better all around feel inside . If you were to say stack that Mojo up next to an X23 then I would say that previous statement of luxury would no longer be true in the Mojo favor. Moomba has come a long, long way in quality. It's hard for most to get passed the moomba of the old days and accept the fact they are just shy of a top tier boat but that's the truth.

Both the performance of the wakes behind both the Mojo and the NXT are pretty similar. It's a versitile wake that can be user friendly for all levels. I would choose the Mojo all day every day all things equal. However MC has put together a pretty serious "national " LIMITED TIME" pricing plan for 2017 on the NXT line that could possibly sway me depending on the price difference if I was trying to choose between both.

If you wanted to stay Nautique. The 210 wake is very versitile, but assuming that is bit small for your taste as the 230 and Mojo are 23ft'rs and the NXT is 22. Keep in mind not only is the NXT the smallest it also has the narrowest beam. One other boat in Nautique line with a very versitile wake is the G23 , probably a little out of your price if you're wanting to stay around 2014 230 -Mojo price line , but that' would be a great choice as well if you could swing one.

Thanks so much for the insight. I thought about a used G but I grew up on a slalom and still like to ski from time to time. So, I'm looking for something that's versatile and on the larger side so that the whole fam plus friends can enjoy it. We're not pros at anything and the kids are still young, so as much as I like the idea of surfing a monster pro caliber wake, I'll probably be plenty happy on a wake that's more "above average" than "elite". Haven't heard anything negative on the new Moombas so may give those a closer look. They are less expensive than the 2014 SAN 230, too.

What is your budget? I know of a brand new 2016 230 that could be had for around 85k.

Not pushing for the nxt, but I have ridden behind the nxt22 quite a bit. You can get a clean wake at slow speeds, I think down to 14 if you lean it slightly one way.

But even compared to my 205v the wake board wake weighed down is just not that awesome. Very mellow.

Sounds like if you want a more "long term" boat you may want to spend a minute looking at the GS20 or GS22....more money up front but may suit your needs now and for years to come once they grow up. I know NOTHING about this wake/boat series but everyone seems to have great reviews for an all sport/all family age boat.

I have a '14 230 and 8 and 6 year olds who board. You're right it's washy it much below 22. But I can weight one side and use the tab to clean up one side down to 15mph. Works for him. I primarily surf so I love the 230 for us.
