Anchor

First post on this forum. I just traded a Chaparral 264 Sunesta for a 16 G23. Im going to have a lot of questions since Ive only had deep V stern drives.

First question is What are the G owners using for an anchor, how/where do you store it and any other tid bits you want to share.

We love to go to a cove and get in the water, I am familiar with different anchors and want a box, Our lakes are clay and rock so that probably wont work too well, but will get a larger one with heavier chain.

Box anchor all the way, mine works in clay no problem. It's just a beotch to pull up with all the clay stuck to it

I have used a big danforth for years, but switched to a box anchor last year. Works just as well, and is WAY easier to store.

Where are you storing your anchors? I like things clean so I was thinking of getting a plastic box to keep it in the port rear storage

A box anchor folds up small enough to store under the bow seats. That's where I keep mine now.

Mines under the bow seats in my 210. The box folds flat.

What size/weight for the G23s?

Do they ever let loose? (Just watched a youtube video where the guy was pulling it along shore pretty easy; end over end; but he had about 6 to 1 rope out. So as long as you keep it at a 45 degree angle--does it hold solid?)

Yeah Im going to get a box and a heavy chain. I guess I want to know more of where you store it and how. My Chaparral had an anchor locker. Im in GA and the lake bottom is red clay that stains, so Im searching ideas.

Small box anchor with the bungee rope.
fits underneath the front seats and you don't even have to fold it.

just lay it on its storage bag.

Do you even need any chain with a box anchor? I know you do with a danforth.

RTS, I'm boating in the same lakes - I'll always set the anchor off the bow, drop it, let it set then back down on it...etc. But when I raise it I bring the line to the swim platform and pull it up from there, that way I have plenty of area to clean off all the mud before it goes back into the boat, I never raise it over the bow.

You don't need chain if you have a decent scope. It would help though.

if you are in real 5-8ft shallow water...and taking boat wakes into the bow it can pull up. Else it's prolly the best all around anchor ever made.

i always pull it up hanging over the bow. It's heavy and a man's job. Heavy chain will make it heavier and create more metal to scrape and damage gel.

try it with no chain first... and buy one of their stretchy anchor buddy ropes.

Small polished box and stored under a bow seat works great. I bought mined used/new off eBay 5 years ago and it didn't come with a bag, so I found a vinyl lined dufffle. Funny story on another boat forum where a guy claimed his would not hold, turns out he was throwing it out unfolded!
