Box anchor for sure, no chain here either. Held 7 boats in a bad windstorm that blew up a couple years ago. I hope it will fit under bow in gs20, had. O how storage at all in my VTX.

Box anchor sounds like the way to go. I looked into them. They are kind of pricey compared to my old Danforth anchor.

I WAS anchor challenged until I discovered box anchors. Since discovering them I have had zero problems with my boat dragging anchors on those windy days. I've lost a bunch of anchors, long stories. I now carry two box anchors, just in case I loose my first one.

It will fit under any seats folded flat.

boss status is when you don't even have to fold it.

every second you hold that anchor inside your boat it's a liability. Damage to gel, interior and vinyl. Hang over the bow on your tummy, pull it up and shake the mud off.

Goal is to get it up, in and put away very quickly and without making a mess... folding the anchor requires strength and it really a mans job. Dirty anchor on the floor trying to collapse and fold it makes a mess. No matter how many times you shake the anchor in the water you always pull up some sand and mud wherever stuck to the anchor or in the bungees rope.

try to find a location in the bow where you don't have to fold it, so it's put away in 3-5 seconds.

it barely fits underneath the from G seats, laying in its own bag. All the rope sits in the center of the box. Alllows the anchor and rope to air out and dry, fights dry rot and mold.

probably 200+ times in Gs, the anchor has never touched or damaged my gel or vinyl using these methods. Pay attention, use strength, move quickly and get it put away without damage or slinging mud everywhere. Bad idea to keep it anywhere but in the bow. Walking from front to rear creates a ton of liability. Heavy, sharp anchor walking thru a narrow passage while the boat is rocking and folks moving around. Keep the anchor in the bow.

Are you talking about the box anchor on this site?

If I'm understanding--two times the depth of the water to hold it forever. Is their stretchy rope buddy 100% necessary?

I've used a small box anchor with only polypropylene rope the last two years. It actually seems to be more anchor than I need. My 2005 210 is definitely a lot lighter than a G, but with the rope out only twice the water depth I have never had any movement.

Johnny, not necessary.... but definitely helps in areas with waves and boat wakes.... to keep the bow from lifting up and yanking the anchor off the bottom.

the G bow taking a large wake into the bow will rip just about any anchor off the bottom.

The stretchy rope allows some give, eliminates the shock and allows the anchor to stay set on the bottom.

will you anchor out in places with large boat wakes and waves? = stretchy rope needed.

The stretchy rope is also great for retrieving the boat if you're tied off to the shore. Just pull boat in close enough to the shore to wade to it, unhook the shore line and the boat slides back out to the deeper water. Or vice versa if you're getting off the boat.

I have had very good luck with the digger anchor / sand spike / anchor buddy combo.

I use a large Richter anchor with a chain attached to the anchor and then length of line. It works well.

I apologize for bringing up old thread. I didn’t want to start a new one since some info is already in here bough.
                          To anchor a G23
Which size is everyone using for the box anchor. I bought a large anchor and sand spike last year, but they’re huge. My dealer thinks the small of both is fine, but thought I would get some opinions based on peoples actual use. The large isn’t moving for sure. Just seems like overkill when I’m moving it around.

The small is rated for 18'-30' boats. Your large will do up to 40'.

That’s what I thought originally, but There was another post on here at end of summer where slide anchor said they may be changing recommendations for g23 to XL. I’m guessing because they are a sail!
