I know there is a lot of guys talking about the depth guages. I would like to hear from the Faria guys as to how shallow the Faria reads. I got a PDF file from their sales people and it says the the depth starts at 3' to 199'. Does this mean ir does not read below 3' ? Our lake is very shallow around the edge and i want to try something other than my Humminbird. Also do these things bounce signals off of weeds or just the lake bottom ? Thanks

RE: Faria Depth Sounder ?
Not sure how accurate mine is around 3', in lakes I don't know well I start to get concerned when it goes below 5' since 5' + stump or big rock = bent prop (or worse). I am pretty sure you cannot set the alarm for less than 3' which is somewhat annoying when I am running in shallow familiar places like the CA delta. I believe it does not read weeds but it probably depends on the density of the weeds. The Faria unit is much better than my previous Teleflex depth finder that I believe was made by Hummingbird.

RE: Faria Depth Sounder ?
I have the faria gauge in my 210,but haven't played with it yet.I do know from reading the book that it is adjustable for keel offset, which would make me believe that it will read pretty shallow.I will try to repost in a week or so when I get to experiment a little.

RE: Faria Depth Sounder ?
Has anyone tried the Uniden? I put one in last year and it has been working great at all depths. I was a little hesitant on buying it since it does not seem to be very popular or common, but I would get one again.
