Purchasing 230 with some issues...

Zr409 380 hours

-Looks like rudder was struck causing spider cracks,
-some interior mildew,
-major sun fading at back, maybe even blistering??
-chip in gelcoat
-scratches
-seadek junk

This boat is up for $70k CAD no trailer (47-48k usd approx) and I can maybe get it for less..

What do you guys think? I am concerned about the spider cracks and the possible sun blistering?

Looks like it was owned by someone who didn't take care of it. I would pass. There are better boats for that price

Agreed look for something that someone took really good care of and kept out of the as much as possible. You will be way happier in the long run and have less issues.

I would steer clear of this boat. I have a 2007 that looks 5 years newer than this 2011. It looks to me he hit something with the rudder and that caused the spider cracks. New SeaDek will run you $1,000 all in to replace. Not having a trailer would be a win in my book, that way you can purchase a new trailer and know you will be trouble free for the first few years.

New skins will be another $3,500. You probably have $4,000 in gel coat/ buffing work. You will need all new decals $2,000. I bet it will take you close to $15,000 to get it dialed in with a trailer and stereo. That puts you closer to $65K USD to get it looking like a 2011. You can find a well kept one for $65k down here in the south.

I would be curious to pull the floor in the middle to see if any exposed water lines show up from standing water in the bilge.

If that's what the exterior looks like, I'd say that's how the engine was maintained unless it has good, verifiable records proving otherwise. It's obviously been ridden hard and put away wet. Pass.

Yikes, that boat was abused something special for the gel to look like that after a few of our short seasons up North. Unless you can get it for way less than asking, and you're confident that the drive train is in good shape (as other have stated, unlikely) the I'd run away from this.

That boat is in really rough shape and priced high for the condition it's in. And like others said, haven't even seen the engine compartment yet and I'd imagine it's in rough shape too. I'd keep searching personally

Hard to tell from just those photos. I wouldn't necessarily automatically run. I think a lot of people on here have beautiful $100k boats that they are afraid to eat food in. I think the first question you should ask is what kind of boat are you looking for... If you want a 6 yr old boat with 12 hours and has never had a pair of shoes on inside it... This is t the boat for you. In your post you didn't mention how handy you are and/or how much labor you would be doing yourself. Would you be paying a shop or would this be a labor of love type project? I'd also want to know how well it is optioned out, underwater lights might indicate this boat has a lot of add-ons of things like a heater, etc that some boats you're looking at might be missing. Also need to know more about your boating style, are you a grab a bunch of friends, bring food, and wear shoes, throw gear wherever, run boats into the ground kind of owner that some mildew won't bother (or won't bother enough to be able to fix a season or 2 down the line).
All that being said, you'd really have to love this boat and be willing to work on it a bunch. I've seen some beautiful restoration projects on here, but they aren't cheap. Having somewhat gone through one myself, and from what is seen on the photos I agree that it is over priced. Just like those house flipping shows on TV there are always "surprises" and unless you get a smoking deal... Repairs will put your final cost over what a clean one would have up front... And there is plenty to be said for pride in ownership, a 6 year old pampered boat vs abused boat can be very different things.
I for one have no regrets, but probably wouldn't do it again on my next one. Almost 18k later (including trailer, stereo, and NSS) my final cost is within a few thousand of what I could have picked up a cherry one for. To be honest plenty of those costs would have come with a cherry boat too- just far less. I can say I know the boat inside and out, have it perfectly dialed, and it is cherry now, but did miss some riding time having it in the shop. I can also say I was an anal no food no shoes nazi on my last nautiques and I've since mellowed out... i no longer spend more time cleaning it than using the boat.... Which has made boating more enjoyable and this boat helped me do that. Finally there are some issues that still bother me- things like Knicks in the paint on the tower from the rack straps hitting it... Maybe some day I will paint the tower... But for now it's fine- good luck with whatever you decide but make sure you don't pay that full asking price.

Yeah I would be doing the work 100% myself...

I did a full ballast install, stereo install, LED lights on my 1996 super sport and I sold it for $7000
More then I paid 5 years later

I actually thought the price was pretty good for $70k Canadian and then hopefully get it for 65ish.

There is nothing available at all in Canada for these ranges and 09-11 230 in states are $60k usd which is 90k CAD after exchange, import & tax

The boat maintenance has been completed every year by Pride Marine in muskoka so I'm sure the engine is fine. It just has sat in the water every summer also so That's where the fading has come from.

The service manager thinks with some elbow grease I could get the seats back to white

The hull doesn't have any blistering so just a solid wetsand and polish which I have all the tools to do would bring the shine back

The few nicks and scratches I believe I could get out with some gelcoat repair kits easily

And then do a whole new seadek kit, which I'd want to remove the carpet and do the interior anyways.

Just for reference for the price...150k for a 2015 G23 in Canada...or $200+ for a 2017...35% on the dollar makes it difficult

With something like this the little things do add up. I'd check the rest of the boat out and make a list of things you would want to fix and then get a reasonable price for it. If you have fixed up a boat before then you know what it takes.

Might want to get a professional opinion on the spider cracks but I don't think something like that is a deal breaker. Fiberglass is a relatively easy thing to fix.

Is it warm enough to take for a test drive? If she drives well, the electronics work and you can live with the cosmetic issues then I wouldn't run away.

It's not warm enough yet but the owner said I can put a deposit down pending a water test and go from there in the spring

And yes I have 30x40 shop to do all the work in myself. I think people are afraid of Fiberglass and Gel but it is a generally pretty easy fix

The previous owner put lots of hours on the last 2 seasons and said it worked fine.

Delmage, seen what you can do and this could be an easy one for you, before u decide go back to the Texan's post and review his numbers and then shags post for what you should pay, combine that info and hopefully you can lock down a great deal, Good Luck!!

I have seen a boat with similar cracking at the rudder. An insurance company totaled the boat solely for the cracks (although it was not a $70,000 boat). The boat then was able to be a salvage. My friend purchased it with a salvage title (Boat was considered a total loss, insurance company not willing to take the risk of a boat with the cracks). He ground out the cracks and re- glassed the area. So, what I am saying is. possible the owner may want to turn this into his insurance company. If they total it, you step in and purchase it as a salvage title boat for a dramatic discount. Then you start working on it with more cash in your pocket to spend on the repairs. Just a thought. Other wise I would not touch that boat based on the photos at the price they are asking. There would need to be a $20,000 US. reduction in price. As already stated above my 17 year old Air is in new condition. The worst area of my boat does not look as bad as the best photos of the boat you are showing. Slow your roll, the right boat, or situation on this boat could occur.
