    G21 & G23

I know the G23 is Nautique's flag ship and marketed as the king of wakesurf/wakeboard boats (which is the reason Im really trying to workout at deal on one). As an alternative I have started looking into the G21 due to it hopefully fitting into my budget much better. After going back aprox 15 pages on this forum I see very little discussion or praise for it. I noticed Byerly is currently running this boat after having a G23 in the past years, so there must be a legitimacy to it. Besides the G21 and G23, I was considering the Malibu MXZ 22 and 23 LSV. My only concern is they are lacking in fit and finish, as well as horrible bow rise. Thoughts??

G21 is about $25k less than G23. G21 wake is steeper for wakeboarding and steeper and shorter for surfing. G21 is actually 21.5 feet long to the G23 23'. G23 is best surf and wake boat money can buy and constantly wins awards. They are both awesome high end boats that once you see one everything else is a compromise. 2016 and newer G23s have a revised hull. New engines in 2016. There's more, but that's the basics. Guys are going to say it depends on how many ppl you plan on taking out and what you want to do.

The G21 has had the same hull since it was released in 2014. The g23 had the hull revised in 2016, a slight tweak which more deeply integrated the NSS system into the hull design to improve wakes/waves, and theres something changed to help w spray I've read. The g21/g23 hulls are similar but not the same. Some have said since the g21 came out when NSS was a standard feature the hull was designed for nice NSS integration from the get go, and the original g23 back in 2012 didn't have NSS standard so it was more an afterthought add on onto the hull. In 2017 the NSS was more cleanly integrated into the hull design.

They both do 2800 lbs of factory ballast. The G23 wave is better, even the older models, that's just fact. Longer hull makes a longer wave. But for me I saw plenty of pros shredding a G21 way better than I could hope to ever including Byerly. I watched his videos for sure before I bought.

For me I found a great deal on a new g21 last October when the 2017s were rolling in. It was Malibu price for a G.

With what I know now I wouldn't hesitate to buy a used 2015 or newer cause that's when they came out w electronic shifting. But at the deal I got new it was the same price as used.

        Hope that helps!

Ps. I'm serious that once you see a nautique and then look at other brands it's so easy to see their shortcomings. You can't go back to other brands cause you know you're compromising!

I looked seriously at the 23 LSV before buying my G23. It's a beautiful boat. But once I (& my family) got aboard the G, we just never again were comfortable with the quality of the 'Bu. I have said this on here before No one has ever sat on their G and looked across the lake at a Malibu and regretted their decision. The G is a no-regrets boat.

We too are in the same position currently, we started with the 17 MXZ because of the great relationship we have with our local dealer, however, once we stepped foot on the G it was a game changer. The malibu is unreal for surf wave but the fit and finish needs work. In my opinion when Malibu went public the boats have gone down hill in that area. The Nautique wave is no where near as good but Im told with added bags it can be, plus the deal we worked our puts us only 13k difference between an MXZ and a G23. We are really still deciding but leaning towards the G.

I've come to the conclusion I'm just better off to wait and buy the G23 like I had originally planned. Just might have to wait a few months and get my finances ready. Thanks for all the input.

What is your budget? You want to buy new or used? Waiting a few months means putting you right in the hottest (most expensive) time of year to buy a boat! There are a couple of great dealers that will sell you a one/two year old used boat for a great deal, they offer great financing (pretty much the same as new I found) and they'll ship it to you for around $1/mi. ?????

Im probably of the minority, but I prefer the wake of the G21 to the G23.
If I rode with a big crew though, i would get the G23 however. Just takes a lil more time getting used to that wake. But once your timing is right, its literally the best.
The g21 is just steeper & more abrupt which is what i prefer.

If i went used I wouldn't want under a 2016. What dealers do you know of with used 2016 G23?

There is a noticeable difference between the wake on a pre-2016 G23 and the G21. The 2016 G23 is steeper and I found to be quite similar to the G21 - I like the steeper wake as well.

If you are an all day 10am-6pm every Sat/Sunday in the summer... 4-6 folks.... that's solidly G23 territory from a space, storage and cooler in the floor perspective.

are you an all day type of crew, 1-3pm in Saturday with not type of crew? 1-3 folks or 4-6+ size crew?

^^^^^ these aspects are more important IMO than boat performance when comparing G21/23.
