Have you tried the plastic owl thing yet? I have one in my boathouse and it works pretty well. You HAVE to move it weekly or so.

Up here in the north the below canopy birds are only a problem if you let them build a nest, in spring I am clearing out their days construction every evening until they finally give up. Sometimes I get seagulls hanging on the roof, that can get very messy and difficult to control like the geese crapping on your beach and lawn!!

I'd go with the canopy , I have skirts as well keeps the sun off the boat http://www.canopyskirts.com/main/Default.asp

I thought about http://touchlesscover.com/ but I had a frame that was easier to modify for the skirts. Either do a great job of protecting your boat

Fishing string strung across the top of the canopy will keep birds off. Zip tie a couple of small plastic/wood rods to the corners of your lift braces and string it side to side and crossing in the middle. My parents have done this in Northern MN for years and works great. And you can barely see the lines.
