    GS22 Test Run

I took a GS22 out last night for a test run. It's too cold (for me) to get in the water, so I did not try the Triple sports, but it's a great boat. Handles great and the wave size and shape looks great for both surfing and wake boarding. BUT....

The storage capacity is terrible compared to a G. I understand the size differences of the G and GS...no need to school me on that, but I was still surprised how little storage space there is on a GS22. I currently have a 2008 230 and my objectives are a minor size upgrade (for passengers), a storage upgrade and of course an all around technology upgrade for wake boarding and surfing (we don't ski much). The G23 is my target boat, but between Cost and weight (I tow everywhere I go) I was optimistic that the GS would be a great compromise.

I was also disappointed the GS 22 did not have hinged access on the front compartments. If I am going to drop that kind of cash, the hinged compartments are a must for me!

Don't get me wrong...it's really an awesome boat and anyone that buys one will absolutely love it. It's just not the upgrade I, personally, am looking for.

Hmmm....time to find some more cash and figure out how a Toyota Sequoia can tow a G23....I really don't want to buy a new boat and a new truck!

What year is your Toyota? It shouldn't be that bad with a G.

GS24 Although you're going to be very close to your towing capacity no matter what.

A G23 with trailer is going to be over 8k lbs easily.
      Current: 2017 G23

When we had our G23, we towed it with our Sequia (2013 with the air leveling suspension) The engine and trans didnt seem to have an issue, but felt I had to be cautious on curves and the boat with surge brakes would push a lot until the brakes engage. Without the air suspension, you will get alot of sag. I would also suggest upgrading the brakes to electric over hydraulic so you can use a brake controller.

I just towed a G23 over 300 miles with a 2008 Sequoia Limited 5.7 with standard towing package. No issues at all. Started at 65 mph and was comfortable at 75 by the end.

Thanks for all the feedback on the towing. I'm certainly at the edge from a comfort and safety perspective. Maybe the dealer should give me a loaner G23 for my Norris trip! Ha.

I just sold my 08' 230 last fall. Had it at Norris for the past 5 years and I know exactly what your talking about when it comes to storage! I would have been happy to stay with a newer 230 if the storage capacity had not changed. The 08' was and still is a great boat.

The new 230 has great storage. My sister had a 2015 230 and then upgraded to a 2016 G23. Her 2015 230 was a big improvement from a storage perspective (over my 2008), but the G23 is amazing.

It's tough to bet a G...there is no doubt about this.

I've not been into boating long enough to know all the competition, but based on my review and discussions, I don't see anything that really competes well with a G IF you are Surf first, Wake board second, limited skiing type of family. If I wanted to consider other options...what are your recommendations?

BTW - my Sequoia is 2016 Platinum which means it has the air suspension. If I were to do a G, Electric over hydraulic is the only thing I will do for sure. I've already looked into that.

Interesting. I see the G23 as a Wakeboard FIRST, Wakesurf SECOND boat. It really was built from the beginning to be a wakeboard boat.

                    Why not a G21?
no need to replace your truck, cheaper, gas consumption is less,

I tow with a GMC Yukon XL Denali. Prior to the G23, I had a 15 Chaparral Sunesta 264. All indications that I read on boards was to add EOH. I didn't do it.
When I recently traded the Chaparral for the G, I was told the Chaparral trailer was not correct for my boat.
I customized my Boat Mate trailer for the G and one of the things I wanted was EOH. My sales rep said he never ordered EOH in the past, but I pressed and he asked the manufacturer for me. Their response was I don't need it.
I picked up the G last week and I have to be honest, I do not even feel the boat back there. Tow's like a dream.
Get the right trailer set up and you should be good

I tow my G21 down to lake powell at least 3 times a year with My 2011 Sequoia. It pulls it just fine, the only mod I did was have after market air bags installed.

Not sure how your 08 ballast was set up but my back hatches were deep and empty and that allowed room for 6-7 boards. The newer 230's I looked at had rear hatches more than half filled with tanks and had a storage tray in them which didn't leave enough room for anything but a few jackets and ropes.

No doubt the G23 has it all.

So just take the tray out.... It's not like it's glued or bolted in there.
