I suspect on a small lake they will not overturn the rule to allow surfboats. Sadly I think what you will start to see soon is rules restricting wake boats. I see so much bad behavior by wake boats it worries me. I have a lot invested in my boat.

I agree with Sailfun statements and others. I have been very surprised that there is not more going on agents wake/surf boats. Quite a few years ago in California on Lake Tahoe wealthy (and that is an under statement) home owners did not like the sound of two stroke jet skis as it was very annoying. The noise angle was not going to work this time as the jet skis were within the sound decibel level. So environmental issues were looked at and pollution became the direction that was taken to stop the sound that was annoying the home owners. This was a good thing for the pristine waters of Tahoe. It was thought that this would gain traction all over California, and elsewhere, and people were attempting to dump their two stroke boats and water craft to neighboring states. Manufacturers started making four stroke water craft. This did not gain traction anywhere else in California. Possible because manufactures made the jump to four strokes for personal water craft and attrition would eliminate the two stroke.

So wave action from mother nature is uncontrollable and causes erosion and in many places erosion of peoples private property. Designing boats to create a four foot wake is adding to shore erosion, swamping other peoples boats and such. I can not believe people that want to stop the wake/surf boats from adding to shoreline erosion have not gone the environmental route yet. When it starts I am sure it will start in California. Until then this topic probably needs to remain quite and only on this site.

As far as I know this is a state reg - Ohio DNR has limits posted on their website. I don't know when the regulation was created, but I would be skeptical about an individual's (or group of individuals) ability to get it changed. I don't know the original intent of the regulation, but I would agree with tallred's reasoning.

As an aside, there are actually very few property owners on the lake itself as all land bordering the lake is owned by a watershed conservancy (which was granted the land by the feds years ago for reservoir management and recreation).

This is just me, but if I knew I was breaking the rules, it would affect my ability to enjoy my time on the boat. I would constantly be worried about the rangers stopping me and kicking me off the lake and ruining family time.

          I would go with the GS22 with a smaller motor. Or possibly a G21. I wouldn't risk less than 400 HP with a G23.

Thanks for the replies guys a lot to think of, might just need to go back to the 23 LSV even though I was set on a G23. Or just avoid the lakes with the horsepower limits on them don't really want a G23 with the H5.

              In 2017 you can't get the H5 in a G23 anyways. Base is H6

Funny thing about HP. There is no real set standard for testing. Using the carb numbers however can provide a good comparison. The indmar 450 6.2 Ford engine in a Malibu tested out at 398 HP. The H6 PCM tested at slightly less so you could make a case it's under 400 HP.

Congrats on the new boat! If you every do come to Seneca, keep on eye out for the blue 230. We also sometimes trailer to Salt Fork.
