Im new on the Nautique forums, I currently have a Moomba Outback but I am looking at getting into a SAN. I couldn't justify spending over 15k when I first bought my Moomba. Things have changed since then and now I am looking at upgrading. I do mostly surfing with some wakeboarding. My Moomba will allow me to surf ropless with no problems.I have a kid now and I am worried about how my Moomba takes on water. Will I have the problem with the SAN? I am in Southern WI and I found one for 23K that looks clean. Any help would be appreciated.

Be careful with that era of Nautique with digital gauges. They went bad all the time and when you replaced them, you got a boat with 0 hours on it. Not saying thats the case with this one, but you need to consider it.

Good point. It looks very clean but I understand that doesn't mean everything either. I'm alright with rebuilding the engine if it comes to that.

The 01's had Ford engines, you can't read engine hours off ecm. I would say its a safe bet the boat has more than 200 hours. I would consider looking at 03 or newer with the Chevy 5.7 engine. Not knocking the Ford, its a great engine, but parts are starting to dry up (ecm, wiring harness) as they weren't produces past 02. If you're OK with the possibility of having to switch to a carb at some point, you could potentially run that engine 3000+ hours.
I had a '97 Sport Nautique (direct drive, but essentially the same hull). Water over the bow was an issue. The 01 210 may have slightly higher freeboard in the stern, but I think the bow area was similar. I have seen one 07 210 sell recently in MI for 30K, but it sold fast. Maybe look at the SV211 or SAN 220 as well, you might be able to find one in the 30K range.Last edited by vanhanbr; 04-07-2017, 03:30 PM.2008 SAN 210

When did they run efi in them? I am alright if water is only on big waves but my moomba takes on water when I'm at idle and a boat goes by

I'm in the same boat 2001 Super Air. Nice boat. Mine looks almost new. I don't take on water of any kind. It is a slightly larger (higher gunwales) boat than the DD Air Nautique I had prior. I did replace a few of the original gauges. They are about $100 / gauge from speed hut.
pretty much all first generation SANs were EFI. The computer which runs it is very similar to those found in Ford automobiles. There are companies who will rebuild the ECM or you could Flash from the boat engine to an automobile version. There's a guy who posted such on this forum. not sure if he's taken his boat out of dry-dock for testing, yet. but, I think he did it for a less than $500 with the programmer, the donor ECM, etc.
On the wiring harness, I can't speak to that. Even if not produced any longer, I'm sure you could find someone to make one. I'd be confident in making my own if it came to it.
I wouldn't worry too much about the hours. I relate boat engines to those in a car. If you average 30 mph, 3000 hours is only 90k miles. Assuming maintained properly, the engine should last a very long time.
I also would believe if the boat looks cared for, the drivetrain in it was, too. You can always do a compression test. Check the fluids and their condition, etc.

I believe multiport efi started in 95, there was a throttle body efi out there a little earlier than that. I might be off a year. I never took in water from the sides of the boat. I would take on water if a wave hit the bow head on with anyone sitting up there and traveling at slow speed or idle. Only way to avoid being soaked was to punch the throttle right before the wave hit.2008 SAN 210

Thanks guys! In my moomba I have about 1400 lbs of fat sacs and with a suck gate I can surf just fine but my wife hates driving me because the back of the gunnel sits below the water. Or the rub rail I mean. With this San hull does it handle the weight better or am I looking at the same thing? I do like that the bow of the San sits higher than mine from the get go

I have about 1800 lbs in the super air with a suck gate. It surfs pretty well. I am about 190 lbs on a 5' 2" dart. The wave is clean with decent push. If I cut too hard, I go out the back, though. Also, I surf front side on the Port side, where in the 2001, the starboard is a better wave due to the prop.
Starting in 2002, I think, the Chevy was PCM's engine and rotated the other way for a better Port wave.
