Got a 2:1 gearbox in your G? I did some prop testing on an alternative....

    • Red Metal Flake 2016 G23! Malibu 25 LSV 2019 2021 Centurion Ri237

Wayward, thanks for posting your experience. I bought a spare for my 2015 G23 and figured that for fun, I would not want the exact same 17 X 17. The only option at the time was a 17 X 16.5 from acme. It has never been out of the box on either my 2015 or 2016. I would expect it to run higher RPM's but be able to pull a freight train.

I would be willing to be the guinea pig if Wayward will send me his prop and I can see how it works for my H6 G23 at 2700 feet. I currently run 3400 RPM on full stock ballast surfing. I have not timed how long it takes to get to 23MPH with full ballast, but it seems like the boat leaps to 13 MPH in an instant and then drags along to 13-19 MPH, then accelerates again. I am a little concerned that at my elevation, the higher pitch might worsen that.

I have never thought of my boat as being loud. The 2015 Malibu LSV was turning 4000 RPM to surf and that was loud. But It was the new hull and it was obvious that Malibu had not yet figured out which prop to put on the boat.

I would like to try this too,
What was you TOP RPM difference ?
I ask, because the 17x17 is optimized to maxing engine performance
Cutting 200-300 off top RPM "could" mean the engine is lugging...or not turning best performance and could cause problem

How was the effect on your Starboard Surf wave??

Lakepowellman- Because the XR7 is forced inducted, you shouldn't see much performance difference at altitude (or none at all, depending on the SC efficiency). Your engine forcefully moves a volume of air, rather than relying on atmospheric pressure. Now the fact that AP is lower at altitude will have a small impact, however, the supercharger still tries to move a specific quantity of air, not a specific pressure. Your boat should perform very similarly. Even if it doesn't, you could always look into some very inexpensive pulley options!

tallred- sorry, the season has started, I can't go propless. Haha.

seems odd that your boat struggles a little at those speeds. When I load heavy, mine seems slowest to accelerate from 5-15mph.

Larry- no change whatsoever on top rpm. Keep in mind, that 17x17 was first optimized for the old 409 and 450. The XR7 is WAY overkill for that setup. Top engine rpm on that gearbox/motor/prop combo is limited solely by the RPM limit of the ECU. And it is still limited by the ECU rpm limit with this new prop.

Oh cool. Good to know, I like to keep a spare prop too.
Any difference in REGULAR SURF WAVE?

I'm very disappointed in this data set. I would have expected more out of you.

              Like a decibel meter perhaps?

wakemakers and nettle props says it is a 17 x 19 inch prop. Not 19.5.

Is this the right one? If I smash my prop I will certainly consider this alternative

                  I just received but haven't used yet an Acme 2965 17.5 x 19.5.
Hoping I get better gph and efficiency.
                  Thoughts?

                      Wayward,
I am about to buy a new prop and was just going to go with the recommended 2569, but after reading your post, I think Im changing my mind....I have the 550 as well, so it will be great. One quick question.....In the write with data, you say you bought the 3047 and its a 17x19.5.....I looked it up on Wakemakers, and it said its a 17x19.....Did you get the 3047, and just typo'd the "19.5" or did you get a different prop that is really a 17x19.5? Thanks!

Doc- haha, I had a limited amount of time and test equipment.

As to the size question for Doc and Hyperlite- when I ordered, I was told it was a 17x19. When it was shipped, I was then told it was a 17x19.5. The one I got definitely has 17x19.5 stamped on it.

Called Delta Prop today and they recommended the Acme 3081 for my 2017 G23 with H6 - 450 . This prop is an 18" with a 17.5 pitch....... hmmm..... interesting.
