Noob looking for advice on first boat

    Hey Everyone-

So I am looking to buy my first boat. Me and my friends like to wakeboard and I'd like to get into wake surfing as well. A buddy of mine recommends looking for a used Super Air Nautique 210 as a good starter. I'd ideally like my budget to be $25,000, and 30k would be the extreme upper limit. There's a 2001 210 Super Sport for sale near where I live and looks to be decent. What's the difference between the Super Sport and the Super Air? Does this price seem fair? Based on what I've been seeing it seems a little high. Thanks for the help!!

Just sold my 2003 Super Sport that I bought from the same place. First off the Silver Spray group is as good as it gets. Had a great experience with them.. with that being said you do pay for that service and peace of mind. From my understanding the difference between sport and air were mostly decals. Mine didn't have ballast but this seems to have. I think a 210 is would you are looking for( loved my 2003 and my 2014). You should be able to find a better deal with less hours if you are ok opening your search area. Onlyinboards.com is your best source

Super Sport vs Super Air is the exact same hull, differences are what features are standard, SA usually has tower and ballast where SS might not, essentially they are the same boat so just compare what features and options each has to determine value.

One word of caution, Nautique had some bad gauges in 2000 thru 2002, every time the gauge was replaced the hours start back at zero unless the installer takes the time/effort to log them up. If service records are available and dealer did swap(s) hours could be legit, one other double check is if boat was equipped with factory new Perfect Pass, you can see what hours show within it as it would log separately from the original hour meter.

Boat you posted has a replacement gauge and PP, be interesting to see what each reads. Possible silver spray has always serviced the boat so they may have documents to backup the 1000 hours they listed.

      Good Luck in your search!!

Agree with the above about the differences. FWIW I'd also look at a Mastercraft x-star/x-2/205V hull in that range. I had a 2004 Super Air 210 and loved it, but have a friend who bought a 2004 Mastercraft x-2 and although they are different, I wouldn't say one is better. There are plusses and minuses to each.

Definitely newer boats, and better deals. I just bought an 03 with only 460 hours on it for less than that.

From 1995-2006 the super sport and super air 210 all have the exact same hull. In 2006, the prop rotatation changed to the opposite direction (same direction as all other manufacturers but opposite of what other nautiques were at the time).

From 1995 to 2000 the back hatch was all one piece. In 2001, it went to a 3-piece system that lasted through 2006 (when they changed the 210 - kept 3 piece rear hatch).

In 2002, Nautique change the top of the boat making the inside a little bit wider (narrowing the gunnels on the sides). This gives marginally more room. 02 was the first year of the team edition which came standard with additional ballast, perfect pass, etc. The biggest difference I have seen from 2002 to 2003 (that matters) is the location of the ballast valves. In the 2002, the valves are located under the engine hatch for the rear tanks and in the ski locker for the center tank. In 2003, they moved all of the valves to under the driver's helm area which makes it more convenient if you are filling and emptying a lot (switching from wake to surf and back). 2002 and 2003 are the only ones that offered colored decks - the part above the rub rail (until more recent model).

There are various other differences from year to year that you will see when looking closely at each boat.

I agree with the above that the Super Sport and Super Air is basically the same other than the standard options that were offered on each. Also agree with the gauge issue.

This time of year you are going to pay more for any boat because we are going into the boat season. You'll pay maybe 5k more for the same boat now compared to November. I've seen 2001's all day for low 20s or even high teens. They are starting to creep up though. Best of luck with your search.

I wouldn't pay more than 18500 for that boat. I just picked up a mint 2004 sante 210 with 170 hrs (for less than why they are asking). Keep searching, it took me 9 months to find mine.

There are some pretty nice boats in the area you are looking on this site under boats for sale also. Sometimes you get lucky and find a great deal. I got lucky a few years ago and bought an 01 SAN for 19K with 550 hrs. Vinyl was all replaced and boat was in great shape and just needed some TLC to get the shine back and has been great for us.

Good luck with your purchase. I found this site as I was looking at buying my first boat as well and wanted an inboard either a MC or a Nautique. I can tell you that this site (TT is good too) really made me much more comfortable with my purchase. I did as much research as I could but always ended up coming to PN to get the answers I wanted. The guys here are freakin awesome and are always looking to take care of a fellow boater (special shout outs to Quinner and honda for helping me with my decision as well) and give their honest opinion. Good luck with your purchase and I'm pretty sure in that price range you'll do really well.

That price is high, I paid $25k CDN for my boat (2000 PAN) in 2012 and it had 195 hours. Like others have stated, keep your eyes open, stay patient and you'll find that beauty soon enough.
