What's your favorite for wakeboarding and wakesurfing?

When I was younger, I'd go to the boat show every year and look at every brand boat there was. I was always researching and riding behind different boats. I even did some projects in college that allowed me to further my research into the manufacturing of different boats by different companies. My determination was that Nautique is the best boat. In the past decade, I have fallen off. I really only ride behind Nautiques these days.

I still don't think I would ever purchase a non-Nautique boat but now that I don't currently own one, I wanted to get opinions on what else is out there that throws a good wake/wave. I'm an OG 210 guy (1995-2006). When I can afford it, I'd like to get a 230/236. In 15 years, I'll try to buy a 2014 G23.

My favorite non-nautique wake is the old X-Star (which later became the X-2). I don't have much experience surfing behind non-nautiques so I don't really have an opinion.

    So here is my question:

What is your favorite boat for wakeboarding that isn't made by Nautique? Why?

What is your favorite boat for wakesurfing that isn't made by Nautique? Why?

Has anyone tried out any of the new brands (i.e. - Pavati, Wake Tractor, etc.)? If so, what'd you think? I'm assuming not great on fit and finish but more concerned with wake.

I can only speak for wakeboarding. I love a slammed Malibu LSV 23 wakeboard wake with the wedge fully deployed. Malibus have a very long mellow transition with the wedge adding the firmness and great lip. Super wide as well. Great for going big and still have a landing rather than taking it in the knees in the flats.

My buddy has that boat and going from my '04 210 wake (steep, narrow) to that wake was always a tough technique change but I loved it.

I never ridden an MXZ or M235 but would love to try them out.

I love the OG Xstar( aka 205v /non pickle X2/ X1). . The boat was a rocket out of the hole , the wake was ridiculous for its time , and the hull was a beast. Double the storage of the og 210 until the deck change in 03 for nautique. It's still my favorite wake ever. It was the epitome of a high performance specialty wakeboat.

Centurions ons were always ahead of their time with Sufing. Their hull construction from inside out was also above any of the big 3 with their ICS beams and reverse shoebox fit. In the gel graphics were the best in the industry with the attention to detail. The Avalanche never got the credit it deserved.

Loved my 06 210 for boarding, have a 230 now and trying to get it figured out. My buddies 08 X35 makes a great wake when weighted correctly off course...big en nice and smooth with a good kick at the top if you hold your edge.

I've heard very mixed reviews on the 220. Haven't actually been on one either. Would love to know how it compares to other nautiques because they seem to be getting cheaper.

One of my buddies has an Axis A-22 and that thing throws a MASSIVE surf wake. He has it slammed and wow, it really surfs...

The wakeboard wake is on point as well.

                  Charles,

How does it compare to your 230? How much total weight does your buddy have in his A-22?

I'm not really sure. It's a lot. Over 1000 pounds for sure.

As far as the wakesurf wake alone goes, it's big. Not nearly as long as the 230 though.

The problem with the Axis is the bow rise. It's really bad. I drove with a surfer and I had to stand up to see over the bow. And then there's all the other things that make the Axis much less expensive than a Nautique. No Sea-Dek, plastic windshield frame, the tower... It really doesn't make sense to compare the two boats. They're in completely different price ranges.

                    -Charles

I ride quite a few MCs and agree with Swat the original Star is awesome, I like it better than my OG 210 was. That boat surfs fine, not massive but certainly doable. The pickle x2 is the trade off, surfs better but wakeboard wake isn't as good.
