Had SkiSafe for the last three boats. Never had any claims with them but they are super easy to deal with... 15 G23 with trailer and gear is under 600.00. Annually.

      1. Always put the boat on a watercraft policy and not on your home policy. Watercraft policies include liability coverage for things like environmental damage and cleanup from fuel and oil that may be released in an accident.
      2. If you are not using an independent agent that has access to and will shop multiple carriers for you then do yourself a favor and either find an independent agent that does or at least shop the direct writing insurance carriers to compare. Asking what others are paying may give you an idea of premiums but insurance companies have so many variables in the rates that each person will be different by as much as 50%!
      3. If you have a boat older than 10 years, be sure loss payments are not being paid on actual cash value. Some carriers will pay ACV for specific items because they don't want to be on the hook for replacing old components with new components at claim time. A good example is the outdrive on stern drive boats.
      4. A lot of carriers will provide an advance quote discount so shop the premiums at least a couple weeks before you will need coverage.

We are buying a 17 G21 and the annual premium for 120k valuation is $680.

For most states the biggest factor for your premium is your insurance score which takes your credit into account.

      Hope that helps.

Great thread. I just switched to boatsus.com/Geico. Saved money and I think I am getting more value/options vs. the other company I was using!

I work at an independent agency with multiple markets - I have my 2014 230 with Progressive @$75,000 of value - $345 a year. I'll echo the above that its not a good idea to add to a home policy (most markets wont add anyway due to value & HP ratings). A true boat policy will also cover any pollution attached to a claim. We have 4 markets & depending on if is a cruiser, ski-wake, or fishing, or Runabout - clients are with carrier that best fits the need. Call an Independent Agency - they'll shop it for you - 2 cents!

Replacement coverage on my new GS20 was $360-ish from Boat US. Not sure where yours is 700+, but maybe my claims history is better or it is something to do with a regional thing....

Completely agree use an independent agent to shop for you. Dealing with a direct writing insurance company may be less expensive until you have a claim issue because of contract language that you didn't know or understand.

Probably saved 15% repairing it also!

I had a 2002 196 Nautique. It ended up under water after Irma. In process of making a claim with SkiSafe. What should I expect? We were able to rasie the boat the next day and amazingly the underwater battery (lake water) could run the bilge pump until boat was empty. I don't know if it is worth fixing- the Gelcoat needs scratch repair also and cushions/carpeting damaged. Should I replace boat- IT IS FORMALLY ANDY MAPPLE'S DEMO BOAT!!!!!

I am with skisafe and do recommend them, but i find these threads pretty useless. Cause you can't compare unless you know all the following:

                              amount insured
                              deductible
                              freeze damange
                              layup period
                              amount of liability coverage
                              etc

USBoat/Geico....under $800yr for everything, been same since boat was new, low deductible, same stated value for 10yrs with no depreciation! Thing I like about them is the specialize in boats and include max amount to cover spills/pollution if boat sinks, etc (fine can be up to $800k). Many don't offer that nor mention it...plus they have other perks that people above have mentioned like personal effects, electronics, freeze damage....even engine damage is you decide to check that box, tho I didn't. Make sure you check into it well and use a company that knows boats.
