    Surfing a GS20?

Anyone out there with a GS20 able to surf with stock ballast without a rope? If so what settings are you using and how many people do you generally have in your boat?

With just my wife driving I was not able to let go of the rope this past weekend in surf mode. I surf goofy footed so I was on the starboard side.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Evening Shade, I know you saw the pics I posted of our surf wake. I think you will find that your GS20 will provide same wave. I am goofy foot also. The starboard side definitely needs some adjusting. I did not adjust settings much but I do know that it is going to take some changes for that side. Port side was very good with stock settings. We did the full ballast shift to the starboard side but I think its going to take some more imagination than that. Good thing is once its figured out we can program it and forget about it- I'll keep you posted as we get some more time in the boat.

just call the dealer and ask if you can demo some fatsacs and play the it for a week or 2 to get the best wave then plum it in

        Couple of questions:

        1) What was the water depth? If not deeper than15 ft, try to find deeper water.
        2) What board and what size board?

I was on the port side, but I thought the stock setting was pretty good. A little steep, but plenty of push. Try slowing the speed down a little and dropping the NSS setting. This should create a little more mellow wave, but you will loose a little length and push. You may also be riding too high on the wave. It is hard to explain, but there is almost a trough at the base of the wave that provides the most push. As you travel up the wave it actually starts driving you back. Pictures and video would really help. Also, try dumping 200 pounds out of the port side. That should clean up the wave a little.

Here is a video of my son that shows him staying lower in the wake. This is stock settings, two people in the boat, both on the starboard side.

Evening: My family demo'd the GS20 back in November before our decision to buy the boat. We each only had about 10 minutes and didn't get to mess too much with the settings but we thought the wake was quite good. Lots of push not too high but this was with stock ballast. I suggest you start NSS=0 and NCRS=5. These pics were at 0/3 respectively.

We get our GS20 next week and will be working to add weight and dial in over Memorial Day. We'll post what we find.

I'm sure the settings need to be adjusted . That wake looks very weak compared to my 210. I bet some tweaking would help and it throws a great wake .

Just to add a contrarian comment: We have found the best (longest, cleanest) surf wave was using the stock nss/ncrs settings, increasing the speed to 11.6 and decreasing both rear lockers to 80%. I surf on a phase 5 hammerhead and have found even bigger friends can surf it, but I needed to buy a larger fin then the stock fin. I haven't played with ballast shift as we we're so happy with the above configuration. The GS20 is a different animal and I don't think "just add weight" is the solution. I look forward to hearing other GS20 configurations for surfing.

How bout not expecting a crossover boat to be a very good surf boat? Why leave a perfectly good 210 for that? From what I've gathered, you lose a lot more by ditching a 210 for skiing, than ditching a GS20 for any other sport. Funny thing is you NEVER see a post asking how to improve the ski wake of ANY boat.......

I ditched my 2011 210 and went with the GS20 for a lot of reasons and I don't even plan to ski behind my GS.

I added sacs to the rear compartments and the bow and made a suck gate and still couldn't produce a surfable wave with my 210. At that point I wasn't willing to spend more time or money on making that boat surf. Plus I wanted a boat that would give me more options on where I could store it. I think my GS will be a better fit for me in both regards compared to my 2011 210. Surfing isn't really going to be my primary use anyway.
