I'm new to the forums, so please forgive me for asking a question that has probably already been asked. I'm spent the better part of the last couple hours searching for info on how to set up our 2005 SANTE to surf. As i am new to surfing, all the info is a little overwelming. We currently only have the stock ballast setup. I'm looking for advice on setups. What are most people running, do i need a different prop, etc. Are there certain threads that i should be reading? Any info, or pointing me in the right direction will be greatly appreciated!

I have the same boat and both port and starboard sides can be surfed with stock ballast with one adult and 2 small kids in the boat. I recently purchased the swell wakesurf and made surfing easier since I do not have to lean the boat anymore and the wave is bigger. If after market ballast was added I could imagine it would be a good improvement. I have 2 props and both work fine. I don't think prop effects surf wave as much as it does pull power. Ditto on the suck gate. I put 750's in the back, 500+ in the locker, 500 up front, biggest prop I could run (Acme 1616) and still never could get the surf wave good enough to go ropeless. We were in the same boat as you (2000 SAN) and had never surfed. Spent a whole summer messing with it and never got it down. Next summer I built a suck gate and it was a game changer. I now fill the 750's to about 60-70% and fill the bag in the ski locker full. I haven't used the bow sack since building the suck gate which is great. I had planned to build a fancy ballast puppy system but now I really doubt I ever will. Suck gate is a game changer.Originally posted by rossrips7 View Post

I don't know what surfboard you have, but IMO Surfboard selection will be very important.

I started surfing my 04 SANTE back in 08 (pre suck gates). Search some of my posts I shared my ballast setup many times. Sold that boat in 14 so I can't remember now.
+1 on board selection. We could never ride ropeless with my first starter board. But when I upgraded to the Inland Surfer sweet spot it was a bit of a game changer. I think I started a thread about that too.

I use a mission delta because I often ride in salt, and the delta has no corrosive parts

Spend 40-50 bucks and make one if you've got some standard household tools! There's a great instruction forum on here.

We have been surfing the same hull for three years now. 750 on surf side 680 in locker and 400 in the nose. People on surf side and go 9.8 mph I built a suckgate this winter and plan to use it this year. It that setup works. I surf both goofy and regular and i never have trouble going ropelessComment

I removed the hard tank and put a 750 in back. Then I put an 1100 in the cabin. All stock ballast was full. We only surfed goofy. It made a really nice surf wake. That was before any wake shaping device was around.Comment

I am newer here too and got an 03 SANTE this year. Stock ballast, no upgrades, and no gates. Last weekend I surfed with no rope successfully a few times(2nd time surfing ever). I weigh about 165 and was using a liquid force fiver 4-8, so not a large board either. Was I 20ft behind the boat..no, but it can be done! There were 3 other adults sitting on port side, filled port rear and center full. I do have a sucgate I made for about $35 that I will be trying next go out to see what magic happens.Comment

Here's what I use to do with my '04 SANTE when I first got it and started surfing. I would fill the rear locker factory tank of the side we were going to surf on. Then fill a 750 sac on top of that factory tank. Fill the belly tank completely. Leave the non-surf side rear locker tank empty. Have 1-2 adults about 160-200 lbs. (for a longer wave) sit up front..... and GO. Was pretty decent and had no problems letting go of the rope. But! It got really frustrating trying to dump all that ballast in the rear locker to move it over to the other side to switch surf sides. So I put the GoSurfAssit system on it and upgraded the ballast system. Now I can switch sides at the push of a button. Suckgates are awesome but you can't transition sides while surfing like you can with an automated system.

How many pounds of ballast does the stock hard tanks hold? Hard belly tank? And rear port and starboard tanks?
