I don't always ride with that many people so I figured going with larger bags, I could replicate the passenger weight. My theory is I don't always have to fill them full but it's there if I need it.

    My current set up is:
    *750's rear locker.
*580 in the belly. IMO, these SS really like weight in the belly.
*400 lead in the bow. I'm still playing with the bow weight. I've had up to 550 and like how it elongates the wave but you do loose some height.

I would say filling two 750's off of one portable pump would take a little while but can easily be done with the right fittings. I have a buddy that tapped into his auto system using a tee valve, some hose, PVC ball valve and a quick release connect bag fitting to fill his bow sack. It's basically a portable pump.

Don't be afraid to play around with weight, having a few extra friends on board can save a lot of time, they're much faster to move around than sacs....

Thanks for sharing the setup. Are you guys worried about weight limits? My '95 NSS has a 1,250 lb max weight posted on it, so I wasn't sure how much you can push the limits. I've got 750x2 bags in the rear and need some weight in the front.

I'm completely full in about 3 mins. Be careful with the center and bow sacs, they will be full before the rears. This is only really a problem with the center 580 bag, it will pop the latch from the locker lid before it burps out the overfill drain. I learned that quickly..ha ha

Not worried at all. From what I've read, those limits are for legal coast guard approval. I've been in a 210 with 1k on each side of the engine a 580 in the belly and a 550 in the bow, the boat wasn't even close to the rub rail.

You definitely need weight in the belly and bow. For wakeboarding, you can get away with just the belly, but for surfing you need that bow weight to elongate the wave.

Is there any tips for driving? I know to keep speed at around 10mph but is is better to try get the bow down then pull back or try keep the bow up or does it not matter??

That makes sense. I've been running all the weight in the back which makes the wake steep but narrow.

              I'm struggling to ride ropless.

I'm running 750s in the rear, I have a custom 1000# in the ski locker and a 400# bag in the bow.

I am filling the 750s to about 80% because the rear locker isn't clear in my boat. and the the center bag to about 60% and the front full.

I also have a home made suck gate.

At first I thought it was because the board was to small. I bought a 5' liquid force rocket and I weight about 230 but today I had a friend try ride and he couldn't go ropless either.

So I don't know if it's me, the ballast, the board or the suck gate. How do I figure this out?

Are you putting the gate on the opposite side from where you are surfing? You may have too much weight if anything.

How deep is the water where you are riding. I have my 06 dialed in for even a beginner to ride without the rope their first time but if I take it into water less than 15-20ft the push dies noticeably. Also, I believe its the starboard side that should surf easier on that boat than the port, but I don't have much experience with the RH prop rotation.

In my 06 I usually have the following setup:

                  30-40ft water depth
                  Rear 750s filled 2/3 to 3/4 full
                  330# belly tank full
500# integrated bow bag filled until cushions start to push up
Suck gate just completely submerged at the front edge of the rear "slant" of the hull
3-4 people in the main cabin of the boat is usually best.
9.5 MPH for beginners and then 10-10.3 MPH once people can easily find the pocket.

That's been enough for 360s and pop shuvits. Of note we only ride with shorter skim style boards, never had much luck with the larger surf style boards. Still can be very touchy, but the water depth is always the biggest factor in wave quality.

I also appear to be taking on water in the back. Is this common? I think it's coming from the swim platform but didn't get a chance to fully investigate.

Also does anybody else have issues with keeping the ski locker dry. I always seem to get water in there and it never fully drains. With the sack in there it is difficult to keep dry.

Yes, the gate is on the opposite side to the rider.

The first time I tried to surf it was in shallow water (6 to 8 ft) but yesterday we specifically went to the deeper part of the lake (> 100 Ft).

Only the driver in the boat yesterday. but we did have the extra ballast.

Maybe my suck gate is too short, What size should the plate be? I am currently using a 7.25” x 10.5” cutting board as the plate.

Sounds okay, pretty similar size to nr2041's design that a lot of people have been using:

Yes.... Leave your bilge pumps on while surfing. The side and rear vents will take on water... let alone the occasional bow splash. You can also look at the back wall of the boat when you are launching... at that angle you can take a look and see if the rudder port, prop shaft, or any of the screws that go thru the fiberglass in the rear of the boat are dripping. I replaced several screws in the rear of my boat and had to take them back out and seal them with 3M to get them to stop dripping. Your rudder and prop shaft should drip a little, but if the packing has moved enough that they are letting water squirt in, they need to be fixed.

As to the locker ... we have a steep ramp and I pull the plug on the ramp to get that water all the way back and out. If I don't, I too will have water in the locker. I have a mat in the ski locker under the sac, it seems to help air circulate under it to dry.

Plate is as far forward on the angled portion of the hull. I sit it with the top just at water level when the boat sitting in the water.
