    Boat Lift Questions

Lift is a Shoremaster cantilever. Boat is a 92.

Having never setup a lift for a inboard I went with a friends suggestion of narrow bunks that keep me or the wife from over shooting and going to far.

I know the bunks are sitting higher than needed from the crossbars, they are as low as possible but I plan to add more holes to lower the bunks. Currently it seems shakey while cranked up and moving around in the boat.

Is this a result of to high off the crossbars or too narrow with the bunks?

It's easy enough to tie the boat off and remove the bunks so if they should move that's no big deal. I do plan on pulling the bunks off and drill more holes as well as cut off some excess on the bottom.

Ideally bunks would be directly below the stringers, matching your trailer bunk width should also give you an idea where they should be. Just pull on slow and use the canopy post vs the windshield or a cleat or whatever to know where you stop. As far as being shaky, the higher the feet are the shakier the lift will feel. Bunk height just needs to be enough to clear the tracking fins.

So you would recommend moving them out when I drop them as well?

I initially had them roughly spaced to the trailer bunks but yielded to those with experience.

They should be as wide as the trailer bunks and tall enough to clear the beams. If necessary, go to 2x10s or even 2x12s to make the height.

I can adjust the height via the aluminum posts the bunks are attached to so I don't know that I would need to be going to a wood bunk and using 2x10/12s.

Sounds like I need to see where the boat is sitting front to back on the bunks and go measure the same area on the trailer tonight

Nautique might be able to tell you also, I shot them an email about my 210 and they sent me the drawings and said the stringers were 34" apart on center line so just used 2 2x12s at that spacing and seems great

Spread it to about 43 and 40" last night.

Do I need to be concerned about how it is sitting on the bunks? Not even or symmetrical but pretty centered. Or will it kinda self regulate with time?

Sorry for what are a lot of pics and probably dumb questions. Just trying to get this to the point of putting it in the rack and forgetting about it until I ski.

It still feels wobbly, by my tape I have 9" from the cross bar to the front fin, the fin is 6" so in theory I can lower the bunks another couple inches and be safe right?

Everything there looks fine. No need to change anything.

I'm certainly no expert but I'm not sure I like that port side bunk contacting the hull on edge. The other side seems fine.
I preferred to set mine up only as high as I needed it. I had helpers hold and guide the boat in while I dunked and watched the fins approach the rack. Then one hole up (or down??) on the posts on the rack to give it that extra height just to be sure.

Got it docked last night sitting even and good on the bunks after hanging a rope as a reference point for where to be.

See if we duplicate it today and then we can worry about lowering the bunks.

All looks good to me except that port side bunk as was said. I'd try to even that out flat with the hull

Last two times we have ended with the bunks even and not sitting on that port side edge. One time did, we cranked it down and recentered. Think the wind pushed it too far to the starboard.

Seem to have our front to back figured with a rope hanging from the canopy. Just working on perfecting side to side.

But it isn't a big issue to crank part way up, hope in and check to see how it is sitting before finishing.
