Drone Video Wakeboarding behind G23 and Smith Mountain Lake Dam scenes

This is a pretty cool video one of my son's took of our G23 with his drone while my other son was wakeboarding. Incredible the views you get from a drone.

Did you use auto-follow for those shots or just have a drone pilot on board the boat? I haven't had a chance to play with auto-follow and wondered how well it would work in that application...

No just had middle son who is the drone operator on the boat . Operated in the bow area of the boat while moving. Exited and retrieved drone from stern on platform while boat not under power

I am looking for a drone and so far all the reviews for auto follow feature are not good at all. Even the airdog got destroyed on Amazon and they slashed the price by more than 50%. I believe I will have to wait a couple more years for the technology to mature.

I've always wondered what I could use this space for. It is the perfect safe spot on the boat for the Mavic drone when not in use. I have had good luck with auto follow mode. Just set it on the boat and not the rider and go from there. It will surprise you how well it works.

Interesting, do you use the auto follow mode a lot by following the boat?

How can you zoom on the rider with your technique?

I am interested to know more, if you do not mind

I have not had the drone that long but I am the only one in the boat at times and it works well. Certainly having a driver for the boat and one for the drone will work best. I have had the best success setting the altitude fist and the boat stopped. Get your rider up and The drone will maintain that altitude for the most part. It will drift back and then approach. You can use the gimbal control if your not driving and you do have some control of the drone while in auto follow. Editing will get you some good clips. Try it and see what you find.

                        Thanks,

I do not have a drone yet, as my research led me to believe they are not ready for auto follow. I was optimistic about the airdog, but after looking at the review the first 6 months ,this is disappointing. Will keep your idea and see how it flows the next couple of months.

That looks like a really cool lake. Good to see you got some smooth water towards the end.

Which drone was this taken with? EDIT: It says DJI on the Youtube page. Which model?

I don't know which model of drone it is because my son is the operator. You are correct that it is a DJI . I can say the drone model is completely white in color if that help on determining the model type.
